But he complains that Antonio’s death was “an execution” and they blackwatch was just assassins now?
while I Did say jesse’s hard-coded for survival more than morals, he does have a sense of justice. he’s no killer-- he wouldnt hesitate to kill if he has to (shown in train hopper)-- but his Thing seems to be ‘take no action unless provoked’. you can see a bit of that in his ‘tried being reasonable’ line and his ‘ill make an exception’ line for widowmaker. if you have to kill, that’s one thing. if you dont have to...
jesse can tell that there’s a difference between ‘we’re going to infiltrate this place in order to shoot this Bad Man because he’s Bad and he needs to be taken out. this is the only way’ and ‘we’ve discussed other ways and we’re going to try and get him to confess so we can put him in ja-- ACTUALLY never mind, he pissed me off. die.’. while the outcome is (almost) the same, there’s a... callousness from reyes that probably didnt feel Just to jesse. they were going to try and avoid death. isnt that what the good guys do? isnt blackwatch supposed to be the good guys?
reyes has a line that goes smth like ‘blackwatch is supposed to do the jobs no one else can. i thought you had the stomach for that’ and jesse replies’ i guess i dont’. jesse seems to realize here that his definition of ‘necessary’ and reyes’ no longer match up. in the past even if they were killing it was for a cause, and they were only doing it because they had to. this time they had options they couldve taken (better options! smarter options!) that werent ‘shoot the bastard where he stands, unarmed’ and reyes specifically chose not to take them.
there’s another line where jesse asks why reyes did it and reyes says smth like ‘he thought he was invincible’ and jesse replies ‘he make you angry? thats all it takes?’
while --like genji says-- ‘dead is dead’, jesse does seems to care about how and why the killing goes down, and gabriel very clearly didnt. i dont think that’s something jesse can respect on top of his anger at gabriel for endangering them
besides, you ever get angry with someone for 1 thing and your brain suddenly dredges up every other possible reason that you could potentially use to get even madder? that happens to me all the time
