Regrets, I've had a few. And one of them is missing out on those amazing Terrastock Festivals of the late 1990s and 2000s. Look at the lineup for 2006, for instance! Yowza. Oh well, you can't win 'em all. And at least there are recordings — like this one of Ghost. One long mp3, since that's all I've got. Low bitrate, high quality. Over the course of 70+ masterful minutes, the band takes us from free-form improv abstractions to lean-mean psych, from pastoral balladry to cosmic jams. Don't think twice — descend into the Hypnotic Underworld!

I was just discovering this band at a friend's house in Iowa City the year this show took place. I would eventually move to Providence and frequent and play this venue many times, and attend Terrastock 5 there which featured Ghost, Charalambides, Windy and Carl, Spires That In The Sunset Rise, Fursaxa, Urdog, Acid Mothers Temple, and so many other amazing performers.

I had a cruddy but liveable apartment on the far side of a needlessly dreaded housing project. It was the last place I truly loved living in.

I was out there for the Terrastock festival and talked my friends to come with me to visit HPL’s tombstone early on Sunday morning before the show started. I believe it was Tom Rapp backed up by Galaxie 500 (most of them, really) that opened the show that day.

Got a new scanner, finally set it up and this is the first photo I’ve scanned with it. Yeah, that’s from film.

VIDEO: Motorpsycho - Serpentine

I found this week's music video in quite an unexpected, yet wonderfully Louisvillian way. My friend Erica recently accepting a writing position for LEO Weekly, a weekly arts magazine, covering music. In her debut article (which I recommend), she talks about her experience organizing a music festival with her fiancé, primarily with booking a certain Norwegian band.

Turns out that band was Motorpsycho, who came to Louisville for the Terrastock 7 festival in 2008. Originating in Trondheim, they originally started out as a heavy metal band in the 1980s, but their sound has since evolved and has been dubed "experimental, psychodelic rock." My friend was lucky enough to meet them and as she mentions in her column, "Norwegians are HUGE!"
