Colin Character Nonsense 1 - Russel
mmmnngghh. Rrusel Hobbs. fuck where do I go with this I love Russel. I really do. He's also the member of the band that tickles my fancy quite a lot; how he's brave enough to stand up to Murdoc, how he, if I remember correctly, during phase 1, attempted to communicate with Noodle in Japanese, although his knowledge regarding the language are less than desirable, the way he's quite protective of Dee, how he can't stop talking about the band's music and what their album entails, what it means for him, the band, and what the listener might interpret from said album and music, although this trait is mostly seen only in the earlier phases, and, although this is gonna sound repetitive and maybe a touch reductive, in a way, he wasn't one to avoid physical confrontation with Murdoc when necessary, for example, when he caught Murdoc and Paula having sex, and punching his nose until it broke eight ways(?), I forget the smaller details (and perhaps the bigger ones, too; it's been a while ok), and sososo much more.... his kindheartedness, how he's incredibly open towards collaboration in music, and don't forget his more "kooky" side during the earlier phases, his taxidermized animals, his often nonsensical and less than sense-making words when he's talking about ghosts and spirits... nyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah I love Russel he's so interesting! His relationship with Del also intrigues me a lot; they both play off of each other a lot, in my opinion. Without Russel, there can't be Del, and without Del, there can't be Russel. I always think about the Phi Life Cypher ver of Clint Eastwood in regards to their relationship. Rock The House as well!! don't forget!! but not as much ngl... however there's one nitpick with his character lately. He doesn't talk in the interviews anymore (but neither does the rest of the band lately loool), and in the "lore" (specifically p7) he's just there, and when he does talk about music in the interview (SPECIFICALLY P7 it's deadass the worst phase in terms of character growth/development/everything) and when asked about what Cracker Island is about, he says something along the lines of, "man Idk it's just uh yeah it's indescribable" THAT IS NOT RUSSEL THE REAL RUSSEL WOULDVE MADE NEW WORDS ON THE SPOT AND EXPLAINED WHAT THOSE NEW WORDS MEAN IN DETAIL IF IT HELPED DESCRIBE THE ALBUM BETTER RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR tldr; I love Russel and his character. Really hate how he's sidelined in the newer phases and content.
