why wasn't it enough, bill? why weren't we enough?
From staring down the barrel of his own gun he shifts his narrowed gaze on Frank Castle and this new world he has forcing himself to live within shattered to pieces around him. The Punisher sounds defeated, his voice rough and pained, not only from the toll their fight had taken on them both but from those hidden depths he so cleverly hid.
It's maddening to hear those words. To the point he only realizes the roaring that suddenly dies down had been a sound ripped from his own throat.
He didn't know how Frank could so calmly ask him something so..
Why weren't they enough? Why weren't his best friend, his lover and his family enough? No, that isn't right, that isn't what he really wants to know. He wants to know how Billy had turned a blind eye and let it all happen. He wants to know how he could have loved someone who he saw as heartless and cruel; Evil.
None of this would have happened if Frank had taken that out Billy offered. None of this would have come to pass if Frank Castle had put some goddamned faith in what they meant to each other. Two kids Billy had loved wouldn't have been dead if Frank hadn't lost touch with what really mattered.
But Castle didn't want to hear that. He probably didn't even think about that.
Like he hadn't thought about the heart he was breaking with a shotgun wedding and a baby months later. Like he hadn't thought about how the man in love with him would slowly break and crumb when he became Uncle Billy, when the woman who stole him started teasing and acting like she knew him..
"Why weren't you enough?!?!" He screams, lightning racing down his spine as he walks forward and presses that barrel to the center of his own forehead. There's tears shining unshed in black, wild eyes and rage balling his hands into fists. "Why wasn't I?"
Harder into hot metal he presses, the pain just a reminded of everything else that had come before. He could hear the sirens screaming blocks away. It was only a matter of time now. And who knew what the feds would find when the finally showed up on the scene.
Two rotting corpses still drawing breath.
"You were the only family I ever knew. The only family I ever loved. And just like that junkie whore of a mother.. How easy you replaced me. So go ahead, Frankie Boy. Pull the fuckin' trigger.. You already killed me years ago."
