My heart goes out to everyone in the UK. I don't have words to express how sorry I am for what has happened in Manchester and I only hope that all of your are safe, that your families are safe, and that in all of the chaos and pain you are able to find some shred of hope for the future.
Acts of violence like this shouldn't happen. We shouldn't live in a world where children and young adults are killed while going to a pop concert and our first thought about it is just 'not again'. We shouldn't be afraid of going out and living our lives, going to concerts and to the movies or just walking down a busy street. Please don't let what has happened stop you from going to places and living your life. Please don't let fear stop you from doing things that make you happy.
I also want to specifically give my love to any Muslims I have following me or who may read this message who will undoubtedly be facing increased islamaphobia and racism after this both in the media and from their peers. What has happened is not your fault. You are not to blame. You do not to deserve to be held accountable for this act of violence or made to feel guilty for it because of your faith.
After events like this happen it's important for us to not allow our feelings of fear to turn into hatred or to turn our sadness into a weapon wielded against innocent people. We are all hurting and in our hurt the best thing we can do is console and support each other, not further worsen the wound by hurting each other even more.
