The NYPD thwarted a terrorist plot, as you may have heard, from an 'Al Qaeda Sympathizer'. Jose Pimentel, also known as Muhammad Yusuf, is accused of conspiracies from October 2010, as well as first-degree criminal possession of a weapon as a crime of terrorism, and soliciting support for a terrorist act.  Pimentel is originally from the Dominican Republic, but is also a U.S. citizen. After the drone-attack which killed Anwar Al-Awlaki, Jose Pimentel was trying to find an opportune time to unleash an attack. Some, such as the FBI, believe that this whole story is overblown and that Pimentel was not a serious threat. However, this is the type of attack Homeland Security says it fears the most. Knowing it will be difficult for a terrorist network to unleash a large scale attack, these possible lone-wolf attacks from sympathizers are what we need to be watchful for. Is the NYPD exaggerating this story, as the FBI believes, or is it good that they captured this individual?
