Tess had to admit that Bella orchestrated a lot of things in her life, but as far as contrived situations, the last one hadn’t gone as badly as it could have. Bella’s praise of her boss and the promise of seeing his two dogs had been enough to push her to accepting his invitation to go hiking with him. The dogs, at least, have not yet disappointed her, and she headed straight for them when she finally saw Austin show up, squating down to their level, greeting them with soft whispers before looking up at him. “Is it okay if I pet them?” she asked. “They’re beautiful.”
