Mega Brand Q&A with Hajime Kanzaka 1/2019 to 6/2019, translated
Some things to pour cold water on the idea that Gourry’s uber senses are the result of being part dragon, elf, or demon.

Q: I have a question about the report to the Sorcerer’s Guild. In the fourth volume of the book, Lina was thinking of compiling a report on her knowledge of the Lesser Demon from Kanzel and selling it to some mage association for a high price. By "sell," does she mean that the report is more like a patent than a report or a thesis?
KANZAKA: "It's not a patent, it's a sell = 'you can take credit for this research that you did.'"
Q: The oracle tells us many things, but does it also tell us facts about the past that were unknown? For example, "The culprit in that case is 00," or "Lost property is in 00.”
KANZAKA: "There are cases where they tell us, but basically oracles are facts that have no context. Sometimes the culprit of a small incident from a thousand years ago is told at the time of a major event. For example, "Next year, we will have a very good harvest of radishes."
Q: Are Ruby-Eye's five underlings and Dark Star's five weapons like the four dragon king-like alter egos created by the Red Dragon God? If so, then just as the Dragon Kings have one-fourth the power of the Dragon Gods, do the confidants and weapons have one-fifth the power of the Demon Kings?
KANZAKA: "The four dragon kings of Ceifeed are thought to be like alter egos, so to speak, who divided their own power into four parts at the time of their demise. In contrast, the demon king's core and weapons exist as something completely separate from their creator, even though they have divided their own power. Therefore, the confidants may rebel, and the weapons may hurt the Dark Star himself."

Q: How long would it take Zel or Rezo to wake up if a kitten came on their face while they were sleeping?
KANZAKA: "Zel wakes up instantly and repels the cat, but I doubt that the cat would get on Zel now in the first place. It looks like it might sting his hair. Rezo, on the other hand, wakes up and just sits there, sniffing and sniffing.”
Q: There is a scene in which Alaina breaks the seal of the Blast Sword sword, but can any elf break the seal? Was this possible because Alaina is highly capable?
KANZAKA: "Regarding this, is was made so that any elf or dragon with more than a certain degree of knowledge can disarm it. Perhaps Mr. Milgazia, who put the seal on it, anticipated the possibility of a threat in the future."
Q: I have a question about the Four Dragon Kings of Slayers. Are they usually in the material or spiritual world? If they are in the material world, do they eat any food or anything? Also, what do they usually do? I get the impression that they don't watch over the activities of creatures living on the ground. Do they sleep all the time?
KANZAKA: "Let's put aside the Water Dragon King because of what happened to him, but the other three Dragon Kings are basically idle. However, it is not clear whether they themselves have a sense of free time or not. It is possible for them to completely shut down their consciousness from the moment when they need to be active until the next moment when they need to be active. In layman's terms, they are likely sleeping all the time when they have nothing to do. They are half-material, half-spiritual beings, but they can shift to either if necessary. So if they shift to the material world, they can eat something."

Q; I wonder if L-san created that staff and stuck it in himself. Also, does time exist in the Sea of Chaos? Is the concept of time also born from the Sea of Chaos?
KANZAKA: "The concept of a 'staff sticking out of the sea of chaos' is a tradition in Lina's world, and does not actually exist in the physical world. Each world in the Sea of Chaos has its own time, but the concept of time itself is meaningless in the Sea of Chaos."
Q: I wonder if there are different ethnic groups and religions in each country, like in Europe. If ethnic groups are different, are there differences in national character among countries, or do neighboring countries get along poorly and speak ill of each other?
(For example, the country with a long history is proud and makes fun of the people of country ▲ for being crude, or country ▲ tends to solve problems by brute force because it has a lot of brave men and women, etc.) If so, I would be happy to know the name of the country and the national temperament, as it would be fun to imagine.
KANZAKA: "There are some ethnic differences, but because there are races with greater differences, such as dragons, beastmen, and demons, the ethnic differences among humans are not perceived as significant."
Q: Sylphiel learned and used the Dragon Slave, but is there any resistance to a priestess using black magic that borrows the power of the demons? Are there other priestesses who are proficient in the use of black magic?
KANZAKA: "There is no problem. Although priestesses are supposed to hear the voice of God, they are not forbidden from dealing with a different kind of power. This is probably something that has become acceptable in order to counter the clear threat of the demon tribe."

Q: In volume 16, it was mentioned that elves can perceive events in the spiritual world, but humans cannot perceive them at all. Conversely, are there any senses in which humans are superior to elves or demons? For example, the sense of smell and taste. It seems that demons do not need the sense of taste, but what about it?
KANZAKA: "Compared to demons, humans are more acute in all five senses. There are rather large individual differences between elves and humans, so there is not such a clear difference when you consider the total of the races."
Q: I was wondering, there is a story about repeated reincarnation in the Slayers world, but does the other world such as the underworld exist in the Slayers world? Also, does the afterlife exist in the world of other demon kings?
KANZAKA: "'The other world' clearly exists, as evidenced by the fact that the Hellmaster has regenerated the inhabitants of Sairaag. It is just not clear in what condition it is."
Q: Regarding Gaav, I imagine that Gaav, who lived as a human before his awakening as the Demon Dragon King, used to be a badass but was actually a good-natured guy. What kind of life did he plan to live after awakening as the Demon Dragon King? Would he mix with humans and live the same life as before, making a family and living?
KANZAKA: "Since Gaav has been imbued with human values through his many reincarnations, his personality and behavior patterns have not changed much before and after his awakening. Rather than what kind of life he wanted, he was almost certain that if he continued as he was, he would be erased as a traitor to the demon tribe, so he was working with the objective of somehow avoiding that first."

Q: I am sorry to keep repeating this. I am neither bald nor thinning hair, but I am curious about this question. I have previously received the answer that 'there is no spell to cure baldness because dead hair follicles cannot be revived'. If it is possible to regrow lost limbs, I imagined that it would be possible to increase hair growth from thinning hair. Thank you very much in advance. I know this may sound harsh, but I am neither bald nor thinning hair. I am just curious.
KANZAKA: "It is true that if you apply a regeneration spell, you can regrow the hair follicles themselves, to tell the truth. However, since it requires one ritual and one chant per hair follicle, it will probably fall out faster."
Q: I have asked you about the universe of the Slayers world in a previous question. Basically, the structure of the universe of the Slayers world and our world is the same, and the worlds of the other Demon Kings have the same structure. Is that right? Is not the Sea of Chaos the universe itself, and are there not countless universes existing on top of the Sea of Chaos?
KANZAKA: "To put it another way, each of the Slayers' and Dark Star's worlds is a parallel world of similar shape, and what fills each parallel world is chaos. It would be nearly impossible to explain or visualize because it is not something that concretely exists as matter."
Q: How did Zelgadis really get to know Tessius? Also, is it possible to return to his original body with elvish technology?
KANZAKA: "Zelgadis' acquaintance with Tessius was through a relationship when he was with Rezo. Furthermore, the elves have not researched the art of restoring synthetic beasts to their original state, so there is no magic that the elves currently possess that would restore Zel's body."
