I really do love how overprotective Teuchi and Ayame are of Iruka and Naruto. Like, they're civilians who just happen to live in this hidden village full of shinobi, and yet, they'll jump right to their defense. After they think Kakashi was being mean/dismissive of Iruka potentially becoming the vice-principal, Ayame starts to fret and Teuchi absolutely blows a gasket. He outright asks Iruka if he's gonna take that in order to amp Iruka up, too. Never mind the fact that Kakashi's the Hokage because Iruka's is a loyal costumer who's grown into a family friend, and they care about him and how he feels.
Kakashi also seems to have a hard time explaining himself...when he tries to. Sometimes he says shit, and then just dips with no further comment. But to be fair to him, they didn't know what he actually meant, it was more Ebisu's interpretation of what he meant that made Iruka sad and Konohamaru, Ayame and Teuchi rally behind him. I love how Ebisu's plan sort of backfires on him as well! Iruka's incredibly well liked by all sorts of people, and he's a dedicated teacher with more than one pupil under his belt who works hard day in and day out because he knows that Konoha's longevity and progression reside with the next generation, and he's proven that he's willing to die for them.
I'm not knocking Ebisu here either, he put up a hell of a fight in order to try and protect Konohamaru during Pain's attack, but he's a notorious pervert who isn't discreet about it in the slightest, probably anemic from all the nosebleeds, and not as well liked as Iruka is at least as far as the kids are concerned. His interest in the job appeared more like an opportunity to advance his status than to actually takeover, and Iruka's proven over and over again that status means little to him. He'd rather the right job go to the right person, and his humility needs little work. He apologizes when he's wrong, especially to his students! Do you know how many grown ass adults don't even think they owe a child an explanation for the shit they do let alone an apology?
Too damn many.
Iruka's constantly working on himself and improving, he's not satisfied that he's done all there is to do in his profession. He's completely taken aback by Kakashi's desire for him to be vice-principal, and yet, he still doesn't accept the position right away. He's the kind of person you know would grow and adapt as times change, and he does.
Happy Birthday
Teuchi (10th August)
