Alright so I tried catching up on The Ancient Magus’ Bride and honestly I just don’t think I can do it.
The entire thing feels like they got really good artists and animators and nothing else and just decided that was good enough for a decent adaptation. The music is passable yet so absent most of the time, the VA’s don’t show much emotion, the pacing feels... off, and most of the conversations have felt REALLY awkward, even ignoring the clearly out of place cuts to the “chibi” art style for a crappy joke.
It took me a while to put my finger on it, but I think the word I’d use to describe the anime is “empty”. Not necessarily soulless, but the scenes that were gripping to me in the manga felt really off, and I’m pretty convinced a lot of it is in the sound department. It’s a shame too because I didn’t and still don’t think there’s anything intrinsic about the AMB manga that’s difficult to adapt, besides living up to kore yamazaki’s art, which is honestly one thing the anime has done a pretty good job of (not that I had any doubts with Wit working on it). It’s like I have to be in a very specific mood really enjoy an episode. This of course doesn’t mean it hasn’t had some successful moments. Titania and Oberon’s arrival was hype, most scenes involving Cartaphilius were decent, and Elias’ transformation was cool, but even those felt a little off.
It’s fine if people disagree, and to be honest I can’t really even say I hate it. It was still FAR less of a letdown than Juni Taisen and the new Kino’s journey. Even so, I wanted to get this off my chest since it’s still getting a decent amount of praise that I don’t understand. There are still plenty of episodes so maybe it will find it’s groove, but for now I’m not convinced.
welcome back!
i'm actually going to start posting vintage things here again, after an almost two year hiatus. you all still here? rad!
atla headcanons based entirely on only having watched half of series one, probly hella inaccurate to how the characters end up:
uncle iroh: hes queer. idk what flavour but he sure as hell aint straight. hes not... whats the term.. very out and proud but hes happy just quietly being himself. the fire nation seem like theyd be homophobic so he possibly had some degree of pressure to leave bc hes queer.
sokka: extremly confused bi. didnt think he was into people at all til he finally left the south pole only to find oh no theres cute people everywhere what is he supposed to do. everyone else is under the impression he is straight and his attraction to guys is him being jealous of their superior battle skills. which is also true.
aang: gender and sexuality is the shrug emoji.
zuko: a walking identity crisis. is he gay, trans, straight, cis, something else? idk, he doesnt know, no one knows. he will just ignore it for now as best he can (not well at all) and try and think on it later. when he isnt chasing the avatar around the world
katara: no idea but she currently doesnt seem to be into girls at all. yet, anyway. maybe she will later idk. ive only watched like ten episodes of this show and so far shes not exactly talked to many girls.
been looking at skyrim mods all day but cannot for the life of me find one that fixes the one specific thing i wanted to fix
