TUTORIAL - Text Outline/Transparent Text
Hey guys, so I've received several questions on how I do the text outline/transparent texts on my posts (like the example above) and I recently got requests for a tutorial on how to do it. So here it is, as requested. I broke it down into 5 Simple Steps. Assuming you know how to use Photoshop already, it is actually very simple. If you're new to it, I suggest first learning how to use the basic tools - play around with it until you know all the basic functions. Program Used: Photoshop CS4 (but any version of PS will do)
Step 1: Open any photo you want to have overlapping text on and type whatever you want using the Type Tool. Step 2: With your Text Layer selected, go to the Fill indicator (in the Layers panel - bottom right corner, under Opacity) and make it 0%.
After Step 2, you'll notice that your text is unable to be seen, but the text layer is still there. Step 3: Again, in the Layers panel, double click your text layer or right click and select "Blending Options." A small window titled "Layer Style" should pop-up.
Step 4: Click the last option, "Stroke." This is the layer style that allows you to show the outline of your text. More options are also provided there like Size (set width/thickness of the stroke), Position, Blend Mode, Opacity and Color.
Step 5: After adjusting the Stroke options to your liking, click "OK." And there you have it! Your text outline / transparent text is made. You can also try this with shapes, different fonts and practically anything. Try playing around with the other Blending Options as well for a variety of other effects. I sometimes add a slight Drop Shadow. But I'm a minimalist and likes to keep it simple, so I don't add too much effects. If you have more questions, feel free to ASK. If you used this tutorial and found it helpful, feel free to share and give me a shout-out, alright? Thanks guys!
