I wonder what kind of halloween costumes my boys would come up with...
I was not expecting that following s3 higa on twitter would turn out to be a front row seat to chinen and shiranui’s actors’ budding romance, but here we are
Aragaki’s actor used the 🍞🐰 emojis ive been using as occasional shorthand/joking reference for higa D1 for ages on twitter and I feel so validated
I cannot handle higa d1 rn Stop being so cute guys pls
I got into tenipuri many, many years ago, when the show was still ongoing and have been in and out of the fandom as a silent, passive consumer of fanworks over the course of my teenagerhood. Throughout the years I became a writer and an artist in other fandoms, and it was only last year, when I returned most recently, that I actually started creating stuff for prince of tennis myself. I can understand how desolate the international fandom may look to people used to the size of more 'current' fandoms, in comparison to what it was in the LJ days or even in comparison to the japanese fandom, but honestly, the fact that there is a fandom at all after all these years shows how well it is withstanding the test of time. Something to keep in mind is that 'current' social media has changed fandom as a whole immensely, creating a much stronger divide between people who prefer 'steady' fandoms they can always go back to at the end of the dat and people who consume a lot of media very fast and prefer to constantly move on to new things. Both are entirely valid, but because the second type tends to be much more proactive at churning out massive amounts of works in shorter timeframes to ride the hypes as they come and go, they may look much bigger than they truly are. They're enthousiastic and loud about what they love while they love it, and that's a wonderful thing. But the steady old base fandoms have their own strong suit; when I first watched tenipuri I was a scrawny, insecure thing. I didn't start taking my art seriously until I was about 17 years old, many years later, and after stints in several other fandoms I now have the skill to contribute to this one, were once I would have been too intimidated. I have no doubt that others will have gone through the same process, needing their time and personal growth before they felt confident enough to show what they can do. The big difference, of course, is that fandom has become much, much more accessible to younger people. Having been a teenager myself fairly recently, I remember there was a time where it was hard to tell whether someone's dismissal of a thing they did not know about was intended an insult, or simply a dismissal by someone whose tastes differed from mine. So here's my words of wisdom the next time you feel offended on behalf of your fandom, your ship or your favorite character when someone says they don't care for it or think it's stupid; different people care for different things. In a world where a thousand different fandoms are thrown around you every day it is sometimes easier to simply write something you don't have time or energy for, simply aren't interested in or are tired of hearing about second hand all the time as 'stupid', just to create some breathing space where you have no obligation to interact with the thing. People who say they think something is stupid are rarely interested in insulting you personally, but are trying to establish some distance. Getting offended or confronting them with the thing they happen to not want to interact with is... probably not going to convert them to not disliking the thing, only now they also have a personal grudge to associate with it. This helps no-one. You don't need to defend your right to love prince of tennis. Stick your enthousiasm into creating something new instead, work towards creating an inviting, interesting environment that others want to be part of, that might make them pick up the show in spite of how old it is!
looking through old art is hilarious because tumblr has decided that the most random things are considered ‘suggestive’ material
aragaki holding a bun
so scandalous
hide the children
Masashi is so genuinely excited for this role, talking about how he’d like to be eating together with the other higa cast members
i can’t handle this they’re all being too cute....
