Medicate to compensate.
You know what I was just thinking about? I was wondering about the debate between whether or not our society is over medicated, and why we rely on them so much these days. I’m sure our early ancestors back then had their own genetically predisposed problems as well. But they went through it fine without therapy or medications. So then I realized, other than the fact that they were too busy back then thinking about their survival that emotional problems weren’t even considered a problem ("I’m so sad right now but this tiger is also about to eat me, so either I mope around or fucking bolt it!"), there’s also the aspect that people were closer before. With their population not being so high, there were only small clans and tribes who pretty much looked after each other a lot closer than we do now. Nowadays, there’s so many of us and so many things to do, we hardly ever REALLY connect with anybody. Sure, there’s phones and internet. But those same technologies, though “connecting" us also allow us to passively communicate with each other. A “hi, what’s up" is now considered the norm in daily communication, but it’s hardly enough compared to how connected our ancestors were. So it’s true that our society NEEDS medication, but only because it’s trying to compensate for what our society has lost over centuries of change. It kinda sucks.
