Heavy’s Character
The mischaractization of Heavy will ALWAYS be something that pisses me off. In so many popular fandoms we see characters stripped down to their bare traits, making them palatable for the masses and marketing. Heavy is marketed as either “big dumb Russian man who likes sandwiches” or “giant gunman who acts as the Medic’s scary dog” when his character is SO much more complex than that!
Yes, I get most of it is “for the memes” since that portrayal is “easier” for many people to grasp. But it feels like such an insult to all the story behind his and all of the other characters (but if we’re talking general tf2 mischaracterization, that is a whole other post). Heavy isn’t just a stereotypical Russian strongman.
He is compassionate and selfless, intelligent and humble. The comics show us so much depth to his character. Not only does he love his mother and sisters so deeply that he is willing to put everything aside for them, he is also able to put together fully thought out strategies for battle. After what had happened, all of the responsibilities of the household were put onto him as a teenager, and to this day he still carries the mentality of acting as a caretaker for everyone else. Shut the hell up with this “rare moments of kindness” bullshit, his ENTIRE character is based around his compassion and loyalty. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for his team or his family.

Recently the last comic of the Team Fortress 2 serie came out. AFTER 7 YEARS!!!! We’ve been waiting for so long!!! And I love that we finally got the ending, I’m so happy!!!!! Thank you Valve and TF2 team!
