in honor of comic 7 coming out . tech redraw (ft. @starstainedtarts' bomber)

tf2 genuinely has been a big part of my life during the pandemic. the comics especially had such an insanely huge impact on my art. it's really bittersweet but im happy about the way things (finally) ended and im just reminded about all the things i used to love about this game sm :((

SO. i dont mean to tf2post BUT i was going through my notes and i found an old script for a comic i wanted to draw in the official art style (featuring my oc tech) but i never really had the time for it sooo yeah,,,,

writing under the cut if you wanna read it :]

CONTEXT:

The events of Ring Of Fired. Miss Pauling assembles the mercs. One of them has gone off the radar for quite a while, but she knows exactly where to find him.

[scene: civilian's apartment. pauling steps out the car and takes the route up to the second floor.]

[pauling stands in front of the door and knocks. the door is shown from the inside, opened to reveal pauling standing with a clipboard in hand.]

old lady: well, hello there, sweetheart! i'm afraid i can't pay for the rent just yet.

pauling: oh, actually, i— i'm not here for that. i'm looking for an electrician? he used to work for me. i just want to get a word in, really quick.

[the old woman glances back into her apartment before opening the door all the way. the apartment is sunlit, windows wide open.]

old lady: he's in the living room, fixing up our tv. you'll know him when you see him. can i fix you a coffee?

[miss pauling pushes past her, eagerly pacing down the apartment]

pauling: no, ma'am, i have all i need.

[cut to the living room, pan to a big, bulky television set and a man in a blue jumpsuit hunched over it. he seems to be mumbling something about antennae.]

pauling: tech?

[the man turns his head, revealing tech with longer hair and grown-out facial hair.]

tech: oh, pauling! ciao.

pauling: what's that on your– why is–

tech: you like the new look? it's something i'm trying out; you know, ever since you fired me.

[tech stands up and gives the television a thunk. he puts his hands on his hips as the static barely phases out.]

pauling: well, that's the thing.. [she grips on her clipboard]

tech: —the electrician life isn't really as bad as i remember it!

tech: actually, i MISSED this. i missed the simplicity of life. la bellezza della semplicità, as i call it.

tech: being jobless, it...it gave me an epiphany.

pauling [awkwardly]: tech,

[tech starts to pace back and forth the room, gesturing while depictions of him relaxing appear behind him]

tech: i FOUND myself. i found who i was meant to be. all my life, i always asked myself: was this really it?

tech: was i destined for more than working for my family? was i destined for more than fixing broken tvs? was killing people for money the most i was made for?

[pauling shuffles, scratching her head. she looks like she wants to interrupt, but tech keeps on talking anyway]

tech: now i'm back to my roots, to the business i made for myself. and i must say, pauling. it's not bad at all. i've finally found my zen.

pauling: we're getting the team back together, tech.

[tech stops and stares at her. he slams a fist down on the tv, blank-faced, which finally gets it to start. the old woman from earlier grins in sheer joy.]

tech: figlio di puttana.

[the old woman is shown off-screen, arm reaching to hand him money.]

[cut scene to pauling driving the car, tech squeezed in between pyro and soldier. his arms are crossed, his hair is tied back again, except he kept his beard. he looks very, comedically disappointed at the turn of events.]

heehee im glad i finally got to do a full art piece, honestly i got really motivated to do this one- i started yesterday and finished today, which is kinda,,,,, cool i guess

for one im glad i finally got to do a serious full body of tech, and two im v i b r a t i n g after drawing @starstainedtea's bomber. just,,,look at this fine piecea meat

bomber and tech are canonically on the same team,,,but venting your frustrations via crossfaction counterparts? hm :]]]

SO I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA HOW TUMBLR WORKS

so um infodump about the Tech, my tenth class oc

Name: Stefano Mussomelli "Mario Fiorre"

Age: 36

Height: 5'11"

Snack of choice? Granola bars

Class: Tech

Basically the Tech is a defense class, sorta like a more passive Engineer if you'd put it that way? Tech specializes more in making and setting traps. He can set up power boxes that turn doorways and corners into voltage grids, with its own electrical field patented and designed by him. (He's a former weapons specialist, but that part of his backstory is something for another time)

I snagged this screenshot from uhhh Badwater or Brazil I think, but basically this is what his powerboxes would look like in-game ;;;;))

His loadout has four weapons total.

Primary being a shotgun, but I sorta plan to change it into some kind of rifle.

His secondary is the powerbox system plus some wiring, and I can imagine his menu to look like Engie's building menu in that case ^^.

His tertiary is a pretty unique weapon also designed by him, which functions as an electrical bear trap. He calls it the trappola for short, and it's about the size of a coin unless deployed on the field. They function as an automatic sticky trap, instantly zapping whoever runs into it.

Thought it'd be pretty neat to make his melee a crowbar?? Since I read it wasn't really in the game and it suited him a bit as a technician/electrician or whatever

I was thinking you'd also have the option to switch out his shotgun/rifle primary for a stun gun once unlocked, so I scribbled that there on his ref too :)))

Anyway?? I guess that's all I have to say about him for now, I might post some of the responses/voice lines I wrote for him when I feel like it.
