Meet Jack! Your young receptionist and Ticket Taker's assistant. He loves answering your calls and is ready to greet you with enthusiasm and kindness. When you arrive he will make sure that your stay is welcoming and that you leave with a smile on your face.

In this AU, I gave Jack the glasses to help him see better and his HUNGER isn't as severe as in canon. He does still love to snack tho. Blueberries are his favourite in this one. Dkw, I just found it cute.

Jack meeting MC for the first time.

Here is some LORE. ENJOY. (❁´◡`❁)

What an odd little thing. You are strolling through the circus when you suddenly see a small box rolling up to you on tiny wheels. It’s decorated with bright primary colours and a little clown painted on the front. On the side is a handle.

Despite it being a little eerie, curiosity gets the best of you. You kneel in front of it and pick it up. You crank the handle as a slow melody starts to play. The more you crank, the faster the tune becomes — until it suddenly shakes and falls from your hand. You gasp, startled by it moving on its own, and take a step back. The box is shuddering now. You swear it’s growing larger.

Just as you’re about to make a break for it, the lid suddenly bursts open, and a flurry of red, purple, yellow, and blue bursts from the box.

“Ah! My first guest. Welcome, welcome!”

It’s another clown. This one is just as ridiculously tall as Pierrot. Yet, unlike the others, he doesn’t share their gothic theme. He’s far too bright to fit in with the horror aesthetic — he looks like he’d belong at a children’s birthday party, if not for the sharp teeth that are clearly a safety hazard. And also… how the hell did he just appear out of that little box?

The new clown before you gives a low bow, his sharp-toothed grin never faltering.

“Hm? Ah? You have his scent, I see.”

What? What was he on about?

Before you can get a word out, he’s suddenly walking toward you. He grabs your shoulders, holding you firmly in place. His face is suddenly right in front of yours. You hear him breathing — a deep sniff, as if taking in your scent.

“Ah, so it is. You do carry his scent. And quite intently too.” His voice lowers, his smile almost turning cruel. He probably feels you stiffen beneath his touch, because his grip suddenly relaxes.

“Oops. Apologies, little friend. Didn’t mean to startle you.”

He gives a small giggle before finally letting you go. Clapping his gloved hands together, his smile brightens once more. “And I also apologize for my ‘hands-on approach.’ You see, I have a bit of trouble seeing. Getting a close-up view of your face was the only way I could make you out.”

Why not just wear some glasses?

You cross your arms, furrowing your brows as you point out that he was talking about scents. He looks confused for a moment. His smile fades, and he tilts his head.

“The scent—oh! You meant that. Oh, that was nothing, friend! Nothing at all!” He grins again, pressing a hand to his mouth.

Why are all these clowns so secretive?

You feel him take hold of your shoulders again, turning you around and guiding you back toward the crowd.

“Well, this was a nice chat, don’t you think?”

You yell at him to stop, asking him to at least tell you his name.

“Ah! Introductions. It slipped my mind.” He tsked, shaking his head. “The name is Jack, my little friend. Now you really should go — our poor Pierrot must be looking all over for you.”

It’s a bit odd that he’s suddenly pushing you away after such an enthusiastic greeting. You want to argue, to stay a little longer — to ask what his role is, why he’s part of the circus — but maybe that can wait for another time.

You rejoin the crowd, easily spotting the familiar red-clad clown searching for you.

With you now gone, Jack returns to his box. He gathers it in his hands. He hid it well while you were here, but in private, his stomach aches with hunger — deep, unsated hunger.

“Oh, little friend,” he murmurs, his hands shaking as he grips the box. His voice wavers slightly as his stomach growls in his ears. “You are so lucky to have Pierrot’s protection. For if you didn’t… I wouldn’t have held myself back from devouring you whole…”

If Harlequin wasn't on your bingo cards then valid.

Jack's sight isn't that great. He can just see blurs as his surroundings so he kinda has to use his other senses to get around. Smells are his favourite sense. He didn't use to have a favourite scent, but he genuinely likes to have his face against Harlequin and inhale his cologne. I think Harlequin would be a little confused and would just tease him for it.

For some context and some story:

So, Jack wasn't part of the circus back then. He was kinda his own beast who just also adapted the clown aesthetic. He was originally from Germany and would travel around the continent and sneak into circuses and carnivals to kidnap people and trap them in his box (since he is a Jack-in-the-box). He just so happened to stumble into the Freak Circus and learned that the performers were monsters too.

Jester didn't immediately trust this new monster, since he was an unpredictable character and also learned much later that, just like Pierrot, he was his own breed of unstable. In the middle of a hunger episode, Jack nearly lost himself and shoved Jester in his box, which, if you can recall from his introduction, is his second stomach. If it wasn't for Pierrot fighting him off, Jester would've been another meal. With Harlequin's quick thinking, he grabbed Jack's box and shoved a human inside, satisfying Jack's beastly hunger. For now.

So yeah. And just after that, Jack couldn't help but follow Harlequin around. I have a feeling Harlequin would see a bit of Pierrot in Jack, but instead of getting another clown kicking him, he would instead be treated affectionately. And he doesn't really know how to feel about that...
