Tears for Fears Interview, 'The Kevin & Bean Show', KROQ (18.11.2014) [AUDIO]
H: I think this would be a good time to mention that you've got something new out for Tears for Fears fans. Just released is this new deluxe edition of Songs From the Big Chair. Now, I'm fascinated with how you're able to put, I mean, how much stuff is in this Super Deluxe edition? 4 CDs, 2 DVDs, how is there that much material from one album? RO: There are countless mixes. I think the most interesting thing is this thing called a 5.1 remix. Which means you play it on a Blu-ray player through your theatre system. 'Cause everyone's got a theatre system. And then you can, the trumpet pops up, you know, just behind you and you go, 'WHOA!' didn't realise. Where's the trumpet coming from? Yeah, so, uh, that, that's exciting and, um, there's lots of goodies in there. It's generally, I mean, I know the record companies can do this whether we like it or not, but I have, I have touched the package. I haven't opened it yet because I, there's still a gold sticker over Curt's face which I don't want to remove. And, um, it, it does actually, it is a thing of beauty. H: Yes. Wow. CS: He has touched the package. That's all I wanna say.
* * * H: You made a reference a few moments ago to the fact that you guys are working on new music right now. How's that going? Where are you in the process? RO: We're in the process where we have a lot of songs, we've never been in this position before, where we have more songs than we need for a record, because in the past we used to scramble around for some, but this time, no, we've got too many, we're looking for someone who's gonna sort of put it all together really, and... H: You've tossed around double, double album? RO: Triple. H: How many songs do you have? RO: We have, we actually have in the region of 37 songs. H: 37? Wow! So you need, in the region of 37 songs? RO: I say 37, 38, because 38 is called "Dog Ate My Time Machine", so I don't think that's really going to get on the record. H: I want to hear "Dog Ate My Time Machine" more than anything right now! RO: I'll send you a free copy. H: You need somebody impartial to come in and say, 'That's terrible, that's out!' RO: That's what we think we may have found. CS: Yes. What was it called? RO: Smash or Trash. CS: Smash or Trash. RO: We need a Smash or Trash session. H: I like it. RO: Just to get it down to ten songs.
