things you said while we were driving

It’s quite dark outside, and Taylor has no idea where they are. They’ve been driving for at least an hour in absolute silence, and she’s scared she’ll ruin the moment if she opens up her mouth and says something.

Harry hasn’t said a thing since she got in the car, and she doesn’t mind. He used to find comfort in this, driving around the city with her, hiding behind tinted glasses. It’s the only place were they truly alone, no cameras, no bodyguards, no fans. No one else but them.

She’s glad he still finds comfort in being with her, after everything.

He stops at a red light and glances back at her. He looked a bit surprised when she actually did come down from her apartment and got into the car like he’d asked her to, but now he looks- she’s not sure. She’s tried examining his face but he’s always been hard to read, he’s too good at hiding his emotions. The best there is.

“We used to do this a lot,” he says slowly, looking away from her. The light’s turned green now, and Taylor thinks she knows this part of town. She may have been here before, even.

He falls silent again and she doesn’t know if she’s supposed to say something, because she has no idea why he’s brought her here. It’s been over a year and they’ve barely spoken since it all went down. She’s started to heal, enough that seeing him doesn’t make her feel like she’s going to fall back into it all over again, but she’s highly aware of how easy it would be if she tried even just a little bit.

“Is that what this is about?” she says suddenly, startling him. “You miss me.”

“Of course I do,” Harry says and he sounds downright offended that she could have ever thought he wasn’t missing her every second of the day. “But that’s not what this is about.”

“Alright,” she nods expectantly, and he’s chewing on his bottom lip like he doesn’t actually want to explain himself.

“I-” he starts, hesitant. “I’m sorry I fucked everything up for us. I’m sorry I let everything get fucked up between us? I don’t know. I’m just very sorry and I think I hadn’t said it until now because I thought we’d. God. I thought we’d fall back into it somehow, like we did the first time everything got ruined, but now you’re- you know. And that’s great, I’m very happy for you, but I guess that also means other things so I figured I should just. Say it.”

He speaks so slowly it takes him forever to get to the end of it, and the pauses he takes between sentences seem infinite, especially since Taylor’s holding her breath through the entire thing.

“Oh.”

“I’m sorry,” he says firmly, and he’s stopping the car. Taylor looks out the window and realizes they’re back at her place. “I just wanted you to know, I’m probably always gonna be sorry we didn’t get everything we could have had.”

“Me too,” Taylor says after a moment, and then she gets out of the car and watches him drive away. It feels a lot like closure. 

(If only she wasn’t still so sure they could have everything again if he would just /try/ to get the girl one more time.)

5) what inspires you to write?

i do write mostly to entertain myself because i’m shallow like that and enjoy reading about people falling in love in various ways, and sometimes no one’s written what i want to read so i have to do it myself. but, and here’s where i get fake deep about this, i also write a lot to understand myself? like i project like a champ onto my characters and it’s easier to look at things when you’re seeing them from the “how do i solve this plot point” rather than “how do i help myself through this”.

8) is there a character you love writing for the most? the least? why?

louis is by far my number one choice when it comes to pov’s because i relate to my idea of him a lot so it’s easier to use him when i need to project feelings and issues. i feel like i’m really bad at writing very self confident people, like i could never write taylor, for example, and niall’s very hard for that same reason as well.
