i’ve always seen ppl saying tokyo ghoul is an allegory for various things, but obviously, the most important allegory in tg is the one that speaks to you as a person - this is the same for any media, but i digress.

personally, i think tg is most successful at being an allegory for disability or mental illness - EDs being a huge part of the latter. people are born disabled, or disordered or into disorder, but these things can manifest later on, or occur suddenly and randomly, to people who were previously completely healthy or ‘normal’.

#i used to struggle when i heard people comparing tg to being queer bc i did not feel like the narrative represented that to me #and I worried that it was bc i was Secretly bigoted or whatever #but nowadays i realise this is just bc i haven’t lived the same life as queer ppl #so of course that would not speak to me #I see tg best when it is an allegory for illness and disability. Because that has been my life #If that makes sense?#there’s no right answer - tg is about ghouls literallly.
