Meeting Sashas
The four gods were promised that they would meet Etar and his new friend at this park, though it seems like Etar’s running late. Cosmo swings on a tree branch as the three others sit on the grass below. A few feet away stands a large statue of the being Agathangelos staring up into the sky.
“Where’s Etar? He told us he’d be here by now.” The young DNA speaks, sounding annoyed.
“If I was Etar, I would purposely come even slower if I heard you say that.” Ira spoke up from the background.
“Patience, the lot of you. He’ll be here.. Eventually.” Lareye chimed in, not bothering to look up from her current drawing.
“Sorry we’re late!!” Etar appears behind the statue before promptly falling over a branch of the tree.
“Etar!!” Cosmo enthusiastically runs over to the young god, extending a hand to help him get up. Etar grabs Cosmo, dusting himself off. “Sorry we’re late, I had to get Sasha-” Etar looked behind him. “Hey where’d you go!?” The supposed new friend was nowhere to be seen.
“Sorry sorry..” Sashas comes peeking around the statue, “You got ahead of me.”
“Is this your new friend?” Cosmo asked, astonished.
“Yeah!” Etar ran over to Sashas, “This is Sashas! I recently met him and thought you guys would like him!” He grabbed Sashas’ hand to drag him over to the group.
“Really? You made us wait so long just for this guy?” DNA sneered. “DNA, pipe down.” Lareye responded, lightly smacking him with their sketchbook. Though Ira didn’t speak up, they were quick to snicker from the shadows of the tree.
“Hey ‘this guy’ is my friend, and is gonna be yours too someday. Give him a chance aye?” Etar pulls him down to sit. “Well? You wanna introduce yourself?” Etar looked over to Sashas, still holding his hand.
“Oh yeah yeah..” Sashas looked down then back to the group. “Uhm…My name’s Sashas Jehiel and uh…” He looked to Etar.
“How about you tell a fun fact about yourself? That’s a good way to introduce yourself.”
“Well I uh…I..my father is a priest?...” They looked to Etar with a worried expression, mouthing “did I do good”
“That’s so cool!” Cosmo looks around at the other gods. “Should we introduce ourselves? I’ll go first! I’m Cosmo and I love dragons!”
“I go by Ira, and I can play the guitar.” There wasn’t a lot of emotion in his tone, but it was sufficient.
“My name is Lareye, and I suppose I enjoy drawing.”
“Do we really have to do this? This is unnecessary.” DNA responded.
“Yeah we really need to do this, come on, act nice for once.” Etar slightly nudged DNA with his tail.
“Fine.. My name is DNA.”
“..and?” Cosmo urged him to continue.
“And what? That’s all you need to know!” DNA snaps back.
“Sorry about DNA, I swear he’s not normally like this..”
“No, he’s usually exactly like this. Just don’t take it personally.” Lareye cut in.
“I’m trying to give him a good first impression, Lareye!” Etar whisper-yelled over to the fox.
“By.. lying? Isn’t it better to let your new friend know that it’s not personal?”
“Ehhh??..Yeah, good point.” Etar looked back to Sashas and smiled widely. “Anywhooo..how about we do some icebreakers? That’s a good way to get to know someone!”
“Oooh! Me first!” Cosmo volunteered. “What are your guys’ favorite animals?”
“Are you serious? Are we fucking children?” DNA protested.
“Well, yes. Technically we are indeed children, DNA.” Lareye answered. “Though, I will agree that I don’t really see the point in doing this?”
“To get to know our new friend better, obviously!” Cosmo disapproved of his friends’ pessimistic attitudes towards this activity.
“I think that’s a great idea Cosmo!” Etar lightly punched DNA in the shoulder. “I can go first,” Etar hummed, thinking for a little. “My favorite is probably a Kelpie.”
“You know, I am into these species called Suanni’s. There are a ton of different types of them, though. They’re like lions, in a way, but there are versions of them like horses and dragons.” Ira was planning on rambling on about this topic for a lot longer, but to save some dignity they shut themselves up.
“Well, I suppose Enfields are rather interesting, so I’d consider those to be my favorite.”
“Uhm…I’d say I like Hoopoes or HudHuds…they’re pretty cool.”
“Well if I have to answer, it’s a cerberus.” DNA rolls his eyes, hating how childish this was.
Ira’s eyes locked onto DNA’s in a literal second, a mischievous grin over his face. “Hey, wait a minute, wasn’t it a unicorn, DNA? You told me that one time while you were like..infodumping or some crap.”
DNA sputters. “I.. no it’s not! It’s a Karkadann, which is not a unicorn! It’s way cooler…I’m not some little kid!”
“Aw, there’s no need to be embarrassed, DNA! We all have things that we like, and there’s nothing wrong with liking unicorns!” Cosmo reassures DNA, attempting to alleviate his embarrassment, but in reality, they were only making it worse.
After a short but awkward pause, the fox turned to face the teenage peryton. “So..your father is a priest, right Sashas? What’s that like..?” He questioned, the curiosity in her voice barely there.
“Well uhm…My father, Phinehas is the priest for..uh..” He stuttered over most of his words. “For the church of Saint Sashas. He uhm…he’s the third generation of priests in the family I guess?..He wants me to be one too someday.”
“Oh, I see. That’s.. interesting. Do you plan on becoming a priest?”
“Well..maybe. I’m not sure..I think it’d be cool, but I also sorta want to maybe be a musician one day.”
“Oh, really? I think that’d be cool. Music is technically just another way to tell a story, after all. Do you play anything currently?”
“No. I want to possibly learn the guitar though.”
“Oh, I know how to play the guitar, I could teach you, if ya would like.” Ira spoke up, his eyes sparkling a little bit, but it wasn’t all that obvious.
“Oh! That would be..Uhm..Yeah I would like that..”
“I bet you’re gonna be so good at guitar, especially with Ira teaching you!” Cosmo chimed in.
“Yeah totally!” Etar put an arm over Sashas.
The five gods and Sashas continue to talk, giggling and laughing here and there; all sat under His Fig Tree. The statue of Agathangelos looming over them. They talk until the sun begins to set, the golden star casting itself across the horizon.
Sashas looks up to the sky, “I think I need to leave soon..” Sashas stood up, bringing Etar with, forgetting that they were both still holding their hands.
“Ok, bye bye Sashas, bye everyone!” Cosmo waved goodbye to Sashas, before she skipped away.
Gathering his belongings, Lareye stood up to leave as well. “Farewell, everyone.” They followed up with a small wave, before walking off.
“See you all, nice meeting you!” Sashas dragged Etar. Etar would slightly scream in surprise before fully following Sashas.
DNA walked away without another word.
“Sashas, come talk to me whenever you want those guitar lessons.” Ira called as he rushed after DNA, a hand falling onto his shoulder while walking beside him.
“What do you want, Ira?” DNA sighed, not appreciating being interrupted during his walk back home.
“Goin’ home with you tonight, and I’m not taking any arguments.” They smiled, a smug one at that.
“Whatever..” DNA grumbled.
