So I was supposed to post this yesterday as part of Hiddles Week but I didn't finish. So it is unfortunately a day late.
The theme was "Favorite Trait/Quirk". I had to go with the fact that he is in constant motion as I am exactly the same lol
"Tom, why are you extra fidgety today?" I asked as we waited to board the Emirates Air Line. "You don't usually have a heights issue. I do. You've been playing with that paperclip for the past ten minutes. Where did it even come from?" I laughed.
Tom chuckled nervously. "Not sure why I'm like this today. I think I must have taken it off my desk and it ended up in my pocket. I happened to find it when I felt for my phone."
"Oh, like when you reached into your pocket for your phone while talking to the priest at the baptism and you pulled out a Dairy Milk bar and a handful of condoms?" I snorted.
"Oh God. Don't remind me. I was mortified!"
"I'm not quite sure which of you was more red honestly" I grinned.
"C'mon now. Time to board. Luckily, it's pretty empty right now so it looks like we'll be the only two on it."
"I like that we're doing this at sunset. The city is so beautiful this time of night. You're still fidgeting! You keep tapping your fingers. What is going on? Are you okay? Do you want to take the ferry instead?"
"No, no. I'll be fine. It doesn't take long. Let's board" he smiled, placing a trembling hand on my back.
"You're positive you're okay?" I questioned, placing my hand on his cheek.
He smiled and placed his hand on mine. "I couldn't be more okay. I'm with the woman I love and we're going to view the city at sunset. Maybe I'll even sneak a kiss at midpoint" he winked.
"Maybe I'll let you" I smiled. I had no idea why he was moving even more than usual. Yes, he was a constant fidget but something was making him anxious and I had no idea why. Maybe he thought he had spotted paparazzi.
We were halfway across when the gondola shuttered to a stop. Tom took a deep breath and kept taking his hands in and out of his pockets.
"Shit. What happened? Why did we stop?" I asked, glancing around. I peered out the back and felt the gondola shift. I turned to find Tom on one knee. "Wh...what are you doing?"
He smiled shakily and reached into his pocket. "I...I asked if they could stop it halfway through. I wanted to enjoy this moment a few moments longer than normal." He ran a hand through his curls, making them stick up a bit in front. "I have a very important question."
"Please let me finish. I need to get this out. I was extra fidgety today because I was trying to figure out the best way to do it. I had this all planned out and then I kept changing my mind. So I just decided I'd speak from my heart. I never thought I'd find someone that made me feel whole. I never even knew I had a piece of my soul missing until you filled it. I was just sitting in the pub when a beautiful woman walked up next to me and ordered a whiskey, neat. She didn't even bat an eye in my direction. Ben thought it was hysterical. I couldn't keep my eyes off you, just taking in the atmosphere. I had no idea that you were internally writing what would end up being a scene in the book I can't wait to see published. Ben purposely jostled me so I'd graze your shoulder and that was it. You turned those eyes on me and I was done. I've never looked back. I love you and will for the rest of my life. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?" he asked, opening the ring box.
"Yes!" I exclaimed through my tears. "One hundred percent, yes!" I dove at him and knocked him to the ground, shaking the gondola. I laughed and peppered his face with kisses. "I can't believe you set this up!"
Tom laughed as it started moving again as he helped me up. He smiled as he placed the ring on my finger. "I thought you were going to figure it out. I was trying to stop my extra movements but I couldn't."
"I love your fidgets. One of your more adorable quirks."
"Oh, and what are the other ones?"
"We have a lifetime to find out" I smiled up at him, kissing him gently as the sun set over London.
