it bothers me that, although we are being governed under the same people who fought for our freedom, the ANC has completely lost its values.
we are still complaining about the same things that our grandmother's and grandfather's and their grandparents were complaining about. there is still corruption, racial discrimination and classism running rampant in our country.
Cyril Ramaphosa, who was standing right by Nelson Mandela's side when he stepped out of prison for the first time in almost 30 years, is now selling us out just as uTata did. He's more concerned about travelling to other countries and getting into those leaders' good books than to address the problems happening in our country.
Thabo Mbeki, the second president of South Africa and arguably the best, was impeached after 9 years because of being called 'corrupt' by Julius Malema and others. The title of president was instead given to Jacob Zuma. Zuma, who stole our billions of Rands from our country. The country still hasn't recovered from this.
we were promised a better life, but our grandparents are still living in the same townships where they still take away their water and electricity for days!
and then there's the June 30th march that i don't think we'll ever recover from either. South Africans are quick to blame foreigners for their problems because they're too scared, or just too ignorant to realise that these people are not the problem.
it's always the government.
when the government wants something done, they can get it done immediately.
but when there are any complaints coming from the citizens, president Ramaphosa gets on TV and says that 'he acknowledges the people's frustration' but he never does anything about it.
the June 30th march showed what South Africans can do together if they're angry enough, but they're directing their anger towards the wrong people, and until they realise that, South Africa will never change.
