hua lamphongSo, this past 2 weeks, I got to ride Thailand train. I am going to say, it is quite the experience. My home is 7 km away from train station “Pathio” and it is very convenient for me to travel all over Thailand by train. I took the train 3 times and 3 different class, day and night, so, you will get an idea about railway in Thailand.
-3rd class, seat, day time : From Surat to Pathio. No air conditioned seat during the day. It was so hot and so crowded during the day. The interesting thing is that I could probably finish my grocery shopping, gift shopping, have lunch, tea, coffee, and everything I can think of during the ride because there are walking vendors pass by the train every single minute. I felt like that 3:30 hours was so long on a hot, crowded, noisy train.
-2nd class, sleeper bed, night time : From Pathio to Bangkok. It was 8 hours ride with no air conditioned sleeper bed. It was at night, so it was nicer than day time. No walking vendors, and the weather was as hot as during the day. It is cleaned, and new sheet, towel blanket and a pillow. The only good thing about sleeper train is that I could stretch and lay in bed.
- Daewoo, AC seat, night time : From Bangkok to Pathio. It was an express train, and took about 7 hours in AC seat. I felt like I was flying an airplane. They gave you water, orange juice and a chocolate filled bun and then coffee, tea or porridge in the morning during the train ride. AC was so cold that I had to put 3 layers on and then a towel blanket.
Thailand train, you must not expect being on time. it was about 15 minutes off on my 1st ride, and Bangkok trip was about 30 minutes off the schedule. So, it wasn’t very bad. I took a few pictures of Bangkok Hua Lamphong train station compared to a small community train station. Enjoy your ride. :)
