Justice (Aveline)
What is Hawke's relationship with Aveline? Are they close? Does Hawke sell Wesley's shield, and if so, why? What does Hawke think about the Kirkwall guard and Aveline as their captain? Does Aveline help Hawke cover up their crimes? If Hawke had the chance, would they pursue a romantic relationship with Aveline? Did Hawke help Aveline with Donnic? What is their relationship like during the events of DAI?
Aveline and Aedros are always playing up the transactionality of their relationship and hashing out who owes who what favour, which ranges from serious trades (come help me clear slavers out the Amell Estate and I'll help you investigate Jevan) to outright ridiculous (I'll buy you ten beers if you wear these ugly knitted socks I bought you). It's some type of mind game where if they joke about how they're not really friends and just exchanging favours, they can avoid the reality that they are friends who nevertheless are forced to be in this really transactional relationship with one another. Painful tbh.
I think they're not super close emotionally and they don't go everywhere together and neither of them feel super safe opening up to one another about their inner emotional lives, but they are pretty committedly family to one another after what happened in Lothering and during their first year in Kirkwall. Aveline hosts all the holiday dinners and Aedros always always shows up for them. They really do feel they can count on one another in a pinch when it comes to what's going on in Kirkwall.
I'm working on what happens with Aveline and Donnic. I don't think it happens exactly like canon with Aveline asking for help. But Aedros and Merrill may devastate the ecosystem of the Wounded Coast with their evil bio-experiments, and Aveline and Donnic get together in the process of walking through and dealing with the desolate wasteland that is created.
How honest is Hawke? What are their preferences in a relationship: leading, being led, or being equals? How tolerant is Hawke of other people's weaknesses?
Complicated question!! I think Aedros has a bit of a strange relationship with that sort of thing where they want to be managed, but by someone who is managing them the way they want, lol. It's the push-pull of not knowing how to have agency without having responsibility, and not wanting responsibility but not being able to have agency without it. (Something a lot of the DA2 characters struggle with.) I think Fenris is sort of the prime example of this, because Aedros puts Fenris in a position to do a lot of the bookkeeping and managing for the lab and business that ends up being created and 'bully me into being good' but in the end you like... bullied him into bullying you, yanno? Similar things happen with Anders and Aveline and Merrill as well. What I'm trying to get across is that despite their attempts at being chill they are. Super controlling.
As for how tolerant they are of other people's weakness? I don't think they care most of the time unless that weakness is a lack of intellectual curiosity which is like... if you remain around Aedros they will try to fix this about you. Truly cannot stand it.
Has Hawke ever had trouble with the law? Do they engage in gossip? How do they handle conflicts within their friend group?
I'm sure they've been in trouble with the law a time or twelve and are avoiding the tax collector. As for how they handle conflict? By being a controlling baby about things. They seem good natured most of the time and calmly approach problems with an inquisitive nature and look for out of the box solutions, but when things truly start to seem out of their control it's tantrum time. Taaaantrum tiiiiime. I think the only two times they're really pushed to this during the canon timeline are when Leandra gets remarried and has another kid, and when Fenris sells out their golems to Xenon.
