Something I keep thinking and struggling with is that El's choice was driven by the fact that she saw herself as a burden to everyone around her - while I'm happy she chose life and has moved away from Hawkins, I genuinely am struggling with her inclination to protect and not take Mike with her - she honestly thinks Mike will be happier and safer in a life without her which is not the case at all. The AUs going through my head now are 1.) Mike and El have more time over the final battle over a week to talk and come up with a way to include Mike in the final escape plan 2.) El gives Mike clues with how to escape in their void conversation 3.) The scene of them riding from the UD to the RSU is final before the epilogue and Mike and El go back home to make out and have a date.

Grace, I love all those three options, like oh my god. Especially the first one. Like he absolutely would live a life on the run with her and leave everything else behind.

But I can understand why El would think Mike would be safer without her, even though I'm pretty sure she knows he would be happier with her. I think she's just such a fierce protector type that she will sacrifice his happiness for his safety even though Mike would absolutely do the opposite (though he would prioritize her safety over her happiness, so they're both just the biggest protector of the other and I can see that leading to So Many Fights).

But, man, it would have been a great subversion of the trope if they made plans to run away together and made it look like they both died so that no one would go looking for them. So beautifully tragic, but fulfilling for their stories.

Knowing what we know now (via the documentary) I can’t expect anything to make sense, really - if it feels like they were literally making shit up it’s because they were! Ffs. And I agree - as much as it doesn’t make sense in many ways, I have to believe she is alive because the alternative is too horrific to bear. Mike’s intuition on the show has like a 100% success rate so I’m not gonna go with his take.

Rafael= Paxton except I can't even compare the two because Paxton is 100000X better. They both have pretty privilege so people love them despite their red flag af actions. I'm here for the Rafael slander he's the worst

100% agree! I’ve actually seen daxtons compare Rafael and Paxton before but in a “positive” way. Like I’m not a big fan of Paxton but I like him, he’s not a bad person. Rafael however can go jump off a cliff without a parachute. I hate that man with every fiber of my being. I can’t believe people think he was a good choice. If Jane couldn’t be with Michael she should have been with Petra. I can’t even watch Jane the Virgin anymore because of the last season. It makes me so mad. My husband rates my anger scale (in regard to media) on scale of one to Jane the Virgin.
