#thankyou12 Day Nine

No longer scared to open up his hearts

And wear emotions on his velvet sleeve,

The era of the Rock Star Doctor starts!

When he rolls in you’ll wish he’d never leave.

Oh sure, he’s still in melancholy mood

A lot.  He is still two thousand years old.

But he looks cooler when he starts to brood!

In sonic shades, with his guitar, he’ll hold

Your heart in thrall with ev’ry monologue.

He dresses cooler too, in tees and plaid.

He needs his audience; he’ll sometimes hog

The center of attention.  (Kind of sad...)

All jokes aside, our Doctor Disco proves

That as a hero, he has all the moves.

#thankyou12 Day Twelve

Okay, for my Peter Capaldi appreciation post I’ll share (again) my personal Peter story.

A few weeks after I got into the Twelfth Doctor and not long before Series 9 launched, and around the time I launched this Tumblr, I sent Capaldi a fan letter via his talent agency and enclosed a poem with it.  (I will reblog the poem in my next post.)  About 2 1/2 months later I received a reply from his “handlers” saying that he did not have time to answer every fan letter personally, but there was a little photo of him enclosed by way of receipt, as it were.

A few weeks later, on the morning after I’d returned from a vacation with my family -- I’d finally been able to watch “The Zygon Inversion” the previous night, the one thing I really felt I’d missed while away at Walt Disney World -- I found among the mail that had been held for me at the post office what turned out to be a personal note and autographed card of him as Twelve.  He hoped I was enjoying Series 9.  :)

Peter Capaldi is a performer who truly cares about his fans, and people in general as can be seen by his stumping for charitable causes and social activism.  I hope he understands that his fans truly care about him back!

“Character Development, or Seasons (Part One)”

A Doctor born in Winter harsh and cold,

He thawed beneath the warmth and Green of Spring;

Became the Summer storm raging and bold,

And fell with Autumn apples, ripened thing.

#thankyou12 Day Four

I would have to say my personal favorite Twelfth Doctor episode is “The Husbands of River Song”.  

On the one hand, yes, it’s a breather comedy episode for most of its runtime, and other signature 12 episodes like “Listen”, “The Zygon Inversion”, “Heaven Sent”, “Extremis”, and “The Doctor Falls” are more conceptually daring, ambitious, poetic, etc.  But it’s a beautifully written and acted breather comedy episode, a wonderful coda to the tragic Series 9 story arc that finally gave the Doctor a measure of true catharsis (one of my beefs with the good but not great “Hell Bent” was its failure to do that), and Twelve and River truly did make a lovely couple even before they figured each other out.  The final twist and title card thrilled me with joy when I first saw it.
