Just finished a reread of My In-Laws Are Obsessed With Me and here are some spoiler-free reasons for why I can't recommend it enough:
The art is immaculate. Not in a flashy or super intense way, though. The artist uses relatively simple compositions to tell SO MUCH. No spoonfeeding, but you also don't get lost
Grown up characters that look and behave like grown ups. Some have power, most have responsibilities, and each are flawed in very human ways
No perfect mc, no perfect pro max love interest
One of the most compelling main characters I've read in this medium. She's not the centre of this universe. She doesn't have everyone falling for her at first sight. She's dealt a rough hand and navigates way through it as best as she can
(Why she gets display icon status)
Slow burn romance done well. There are mistakes, miscommunication and more, but there's also attempts to grow, and learn, and be better. There's also enough politics and mystery to ensure it's paced really well
Consequences!! Actual consequences for choices!!!
(Celphius. You'll know when you get there)
Very compelling ensemble cast too
Genuinely gripping mystery. Those fond of theorising as they read will have plenty to fill their clue board with as the story progresses
A villain that really has your skin crawl when they appear
Humour done so well for a series with an otherwise serious tone
Don't miss little gags in the background and in chapter 'covers'
Do not let first impressions of the name, cover image or first chapter fool you
as it definitely did me at first read
You can read the first season and a half(?) for free on Webtoon. Since it's still ongoing (on hiatus between season two at the time of writing this), it's primed for bingeability.
