Brian Fisher talked about how he and Ruth Wilson worked on simian movements for Mrs. Coulter. Ruth's very glad there's no video of rehearsals, but they thought that some of her dæmon comes out in her physically. There's her fight with Benjamin de Ruyter where she hammers him in the back, but Brian also taught Ruth other ways that a simian moves. There's a looseness in the wrist when Coulter picks things up, and she also reaches in from above rather than from the side; he demonstrated with a water bottle, picking it up by the neck rather than the main body. There's also a tendency to spread the legs wide, and a foot turned in on its side.

Returning to the costumes again, Caroline McCall said that they started Mrs. Coulter off in peacock blue, because it was a brilliant contrast to the fur of the Golden Monkey, but also it's a Magisterium colour. Lyra starts off in red, burgundy red, so they contrast. In the first few episodes Coulter dresses in the colours of the Aurora Borealis, playing into Lyra's desires of going north. In Season 2 when Lyra's choosing a new outfit, she chooses a blue jacket. Sometimes mother and daughter match and sometimes they clash.

It was so fascinating to hear Brian Fisher and Ruth Wilson talk about Monkey. That's his name to them. As Marisa refuses to name him, so they decided in turn. He is simply Monkey.

Reading the graphic novel of The Subtle Knife.

So far:

This adaptation has Will (understandably) throttling cat!Pantalaimon to stop him clawing his face when Lyra and Will first meet and fight. Lyra and Pantalaimon are weirdly okay with Will afterwards.

This version of That Fecking Monkey is also called Ozymandias.

Oh god the torture of the witch is so awful.
