Do you ever think about how Robert and Aaron broke up because Robert was going to have a baby but now Aaron's the one basically raising an already fully grown son and chuckle a little.

@somuchbetterthanthat @stopitjon Since you both brought it up I’ve been trying to think through how in the world Eric did manage to quit. Did he make a deal to buy his freedom? Was it some kind privilege afforded to members of the Von Closen lineage? And then an awful thought occurred to me.
Because what do all the other assistants have in common? Melanie has no friends or family left outside the Institute. Daisy has no attachment but Basira (and now Jon), and that draws her into the Institute. Same with Martin; his only outside attachment, his mother, was what brought him to the Archives in the first place, and his love for Jon just drags him in deeper. Tim's desire to avenge Danny is the only attachment he seems to have, and there’s no indication that Basira has anyone but Daisy. We know a strong enough anchor can disrupt a Power’s hold, but not one of these walking human tragedies has any tie to the outside world stronger than their ties to the Archives.
But Eric? He may have been the same at the start, but not when he quit. Because he had something new. Something bigger than himself, bigger than the Archives, bigger than the Eye and all its schemes. He had Gerry.
