overnight, one of my musical theatre coworkers reached out to me and mentioned that he patterned much of his 2010s personality after psych (and specifically, after shawn spencer) and not only did this make MANY details click that had been just out of reach when I was trying to figure out why his personality seemed so familiar to me when we first met, but it ALSO explains why we got on so well.

like this is the same man who said i'd been living a lie when he found out my government name vs. the name i went by in law school and proceeded to mark it out as if it was the ultimate betrayal of all time that i hadn't told him in advance, and i cannot emphasize enough that that specific (over)reaction is precisely what solidified him as such a good friend during the last show we did together. it's fallen into place and i'm breathless with the kismet of it all.

#i spent formative years of my life thinking about the shawn + gus relationship #and not even in a romantic way #just like.#fuck casual friendships; i want to know you better than you know yourself #THAT kind #and there's something so funny to me about the amount of shawn spencer OR burton guster adjacent friends that i have in my life #like sometimes i am the fool with the plan #and sometimes i am the yes-man #and being able to play both of those roles in different friendships is so fucking special #i'm not even trying not to be too earnest on main here #i just like—do other people feel that too?#do other people have such a profound reverence of friendship that it makes them want to cry #or am i just overly emotionally invested in platonic love #because i can't emphasize enough #that when i think about my friends. i cry. because they are so good to me. in so many ways.

you know that kind of love that makes you want to make giddy noises and blow kisses and jump up and down and kick your legs and give and share and build and create and be a better person
