This week has been a little weird, y'all. For just three days in, there's been entirely Too Much happening. Unfortunately, that means I don't have Pt2 of A Winter's Fury done yet, but I do have like...five pages to type up and then one more scene?
I'm hoping to finish it tomorrow, but at the rate this week's been going tomorrow might be a "catch up on sleep" day. 😂
It was the screaming that woke him up.
Well.
Not screaming. It was more squealing.
Rose’s squealing, in fact. He would know those squeals anywhere.
He was inclined to ignore it at first. He rolled over and tugged a blanket over his head. When that didn’t work, even after the squealing had faded into the excited chittering of happy women, he groaned and tried to pull a pillow over his head instead.
“Ooooooh, you have to let me tell Juleka! Please, please, please!” Rose, who had never been a master of things like quiet, cried. Marinette was laughing, though, and the sound was enough to soothe his ire.
“No, you can’t!” she said, and at least she was tryingto keep it down. “I don’t even think Luka realizes yet, Rose. I tried telling him at Yule, but it’s been so cold this year. He’s hardly woken up for weeks now. At least let me make sure he knows before you tell her and she ruins it.”
“Oh, please!” Rose huffed. “They’re both deep in their brumations! I can tell her, and by the time they’re awake enough for her to give him grief over it you’ll have already broken the news!”
“True, but –” Marinette started, but Rose was begging again.
“Oh, please, Marinette! Please?” she wheedled. He sighed and pushed himself up, resigned to the fact that he would get no more rest until his beloved sister had shoved off.
“Tell usssss what, love?” he asked, slipping past the curtain and into the main room. He shivered as the chill hit him, and he immediately reached back for a blanket. Marinette smiled as he wrapped it around his shoulders.
“Luka! Good to see you! I’ll leave you be now,” Rose cried, moving away from the table so fast her chair tipped over and her teacup rattled on its plate. She turned back to Marinette, her face set in a scolding glare. “Tell him!”
And with that, she disappeared with a pop! Luka frowned as he looked back to his mate. She was smiling fondly at where Rose had just been, her own tea still in her hands. She took a long sip, finishing the drink, before she stood to right the chair.
“What was shhhe sssso exx…exxxcccited about, anyway?” he asked with a yawn, reaching up to rub at his eyes. Marinette giggled as she collected their cups.
“Oh, just her Yuletide present,” she said. He blinked at her, curious by her tone. She sounded so…calm. Blaise. Compared to how excited she had sounded with Rose, it was…strange. She winked at him as she walked past. “It’s a good one this year.”
He frowned as he considered his sister’s mate. Rose had left in such a hurry, but he hadn’t thought she’d been holding anything. What had Marinette gotten her?
“Shhhe didn’t have anything with her,” he said, confused. Marinette paused on her way back to the table.
“It’s not exactly a…physical gift,” she said. Her lips twitched with a secret little smile. His brow furrowed. What was she getting at? “Not yet, at least. It should be ready in a few months, though, and I daresay she’ll be even moreexcited by then.”
He followed her over to the table, still frowning.
“All right, I’ll bite,” he said. She rolled her eyes, and he thought she muttered something about how that’s what got us into this mess in the first place. He reached for her, slipping his arms around her waist and pulling her back against him. He nuzzled his face against the back of her shoulder, pressing a kiss against the heavy fabric covering her skin. “What did you get her, love?”
She was quiet for a long moment. She turned her head, resting it against his own after dropping a kiss against his hair.
“The same thing I got you, you silly snake,” she whispered, and then she was dancing out of his arms and collecting the rest of the dishes. He frowned as he watched her work, and when her eyes glanced up to the ceiling he followed her gaze to find she had yet to take down the kissing bough.
…more importantly, he had been remiss in his duties. There were still a handful of berries hanging from the sprig of mistletoe at the base.
“…oh,” he said, and she laughed as she put the plates in the sink. She wiped her hands on her apron and crossed back over to him, her smile blinding.
“Took you long enough,” she said. “I was afraid I was going to have to spell it out for you. Honestly. Luka…”
“Apologies, love,” he chuckled taking her back in his arms. He kissed her nose, then both cheeks, and finally pressed his mouth to hers. “It has been sssso cold thissss year. How much bad luck have I brought upon ussss?”
“…what?” she asked, leaning back to frown at him. “Bad…what are you talking about?”
Now he was frowning again. He gestured to the mistletoe.
“The kisssssing bough,” he said. “I didn’t use all of my kissssses. How many days sssssincccce Yule have passsssed?”
“That…oh, Luka, no,” she laughed, shaking her head. She kissed him again, then placed her hands on his cheeks to tilt his head up. “Look closer, love.”
Closer? What on earth did she…
…and then he saw it.
The third little gingerperson hanging between theirs in the center of the bough.
He hadn’t moved so fast in months.
“Luka!” she squealed, laughing as he tackled her into the table.
my family used to have this white dining table that was given to us by either my uncle or my dad's late boss( I can't remember) but it was a beautiful table and it was almost pearl colored and really tall? It looked weird in our house bc it was way too nice but none of us ever used it because the chairs were shit and some had broken legs and once we got the cats they always had fur on them. I feel like we never fully appreciated that table but my parents ended up giving it away and though I do miss it I sometimes think about it bc i always really liked the color.
A quick doodle about my DAI experience till now. So this is basically it
Poor Solas AND that table... wonder how I haven't broken it to pieces yet...
Hey, don't blame me it's the fastest way to Cullen, gotta get some sugar lol
My name is Table-kun, and I have been proudly serving the needs of the Ashford family for nearly a decade.
But... this was not in my contract.
I had no idea what the hell this was.
