Is it not a magnificent aspect of our human nature that we construct such elaborate fictional worlds, and invest ourselves so deeply in them, as a way of opening up a basis for connecting with each other in a way that we could not if were were only thinking at the level of the immediate physical world around us? It is beautiful that our desire for connection motivates us so much. I overheard some random people discussing a science fiction show with such passion and involvement as they walked past my kitchen window and I was just thinking: wow, you know, like they are so into this and it is serving such a foundation for facilitating their friendship.
