The Volumes “That Same Old Feeling,” Impact Records (1966)

“Detroit group The Volumes debuted with ‘I Love You’ for Tony Ewing’s Chex Records in 1962, which became a national Pop and R&B hit.  They were soon teamed up with Harry Balk and Irv Micahnik who produced them in Detroit and leased their recordings to Jubilee and Old Town Records in New York.  Balk and Micahnik then switched their releases to their own labels, American Arts and Twirl Records.  In 1966 the ground were produced by Duke Browner on his rocking, gospel-inspired song ‘The Trouble I’ve Seen.’  Browner also produced the slip ‘That Same Old Feeling’ written by John Rhys and Peter Saputo, the more soulful of the two sides.  Despite the slow intro it has become very popular on discerning Northern Soul dance floors in recent years.”— Adrian Croasdell, in the liner notes to Northern Soul’s Classiest Rarities Vol. 5
