Advice on becoming an Academic weapon
1. Listen to music that puts you in the mood
~ I love the website I miss my cafe/I miss my library where they give the ambience of being in a coffee shop/library. Also listening to classical music or slower music. It gets you in the mood.
2. Set realistic goals
~ You don’t become an academic weapon over night. For instance, if you never study then it’s better to start off small like only studying for half an hour and if you get C grades then you should start aiming for B’s instead of aiming for A’s straight away.
3. Embody a fictional character
~ Rory Gilmore is probably who comes to mind but it can be any academic character. Personally, I love Sweets and Brennan from bones. They inspire me to get good grades.
4. Play around with study methods
~ Different things work for different people. Active recall was my favourite method but now I’m studying health and social care I just take notes because I don’t do exams anymore.
5. Take breaks
~ Working non-stop is how you burn out. Take breaks while studying, have days where you don’t do any study. Don’t let studying become your whole life.
there is something inherently aesthetic in sketchy, chaotic note taking and you can't convince me otherwise. yes the colors and the stickers are cute, but what about a truly used, lived through block notes full of fast handwriting? oh ma'am
Student: *sees me putting on my coat to leave in the office*
Student: Oh Miss C! You are leaving leaving? Like now?
Me: Yep. I'm done for the day.
Student: *brings up his fist for props*
Me: *chokes down tears and bumps his fist*
Student: We're going to really miss you.
Me: *runs away*

additional study advice
- Do exam questions as revision
- do methods that use active recall
- Blurting and mindmaps to figure out where there’s gaps in your knowledge
- try to go to school everyday before exams and give it your all in lessons
- Don’t spend hours studying on end because it won’t help you remember anything
- pomodoro technique
- Use the three minute rule when you’re procrastinating
Studying 10+ hours a day, especially with minimal breaks, is not healthy at all. You’re setting yourself up for burning out while will negatively affect you down the line. Take a break, have a nice snack, get some exercise in and spend some time with other people.
How to deal with exam stress
Meditation
- Meditation is perfect for stress relief, you can find a 5-10 minute guided meditation and do it every morning + night
Take breaks when studying
- Study for 25 minutes and take a 5 minute break. Studying for hours on end is not going to be helpful as your brain won’t remember things past 25 minutes unless you take a break to allow it to process the information
Make time for your hobbies
- Even if it’s just ten minutes it’s so important to still do things you enjoy, do a quick sketch or whatever you enjoy. It’s so beneficial and it’ll help take your mind off exams for a few minutes
Exercise
- This is so important even if it’s a ten minute hiit in your bedroom. Exercise releases endorphins which is perfect for stress relief and during exam season we spend a lot of time sitting so it’s important to get up and be active
Breathing exercises
- Learn some breathing exercises and when you get really stressed in the actual exam or while you’re studying just take a minute and focus on your breathing.
Positive affirmations
- If you believe in the law of assumption then repeat affirmations like ‘I’ve passed all my exams’ and this should help ease exam stress
