Order 3066 comes out and Roy sees what they’re forcing alchemists to do (and he hasn’t yet taken his exam- he’s fresh out of the academy and already jaded) and goes “oh no! I have suddenly forgotten all of the training of my childhood! oops-a-daisys! Cant use me to murder people now, can you?”

(Except they can. He’s got steady hands and dark, dark eyes. Perfect for the glare of the desert sun. They put a rifle in his hands and send him to the highest peak.)

But then one day, he spots a familiar blonde head. She’s bent over, throwing up onto the sand, and when Roy gets there, she has white gloves with red, red arrays stitched onto them, and she smells of smoke and cooked meat and boiled blood and Roy nearly throws up, too)

When the war is over and they’re all sent home, Roy resolves to take Bradley’s spot. The kicker? Riza confesses quietly to him one evening, stitching yet another blood-red array into another set of white, white gloves, that she wants the same fucking thing. And she’ll do whatever it takes to get it.
