wip wednesday

This is actually a snippet from an abandoned piece where I was trying to write smut and accidentally wrote something soft instead.

Johnny was still a little high when he woke up, coasting on some long dark wave. He’d gone for a smoke, and a walk, but had forgotten why. It eluded him until he was back inside the room and saw V curled in on herself with the entire bed sheet wrapped around her like a mummy.

“Hey!” he said, a little louder than he had intended. She flinched, and then was completely still, trying to ignore him. “I’m back.”

“Halle-fucking-lujah,” she grumbled. “Someone should call the cops.”

“You bit me,” he accused, kicking off his shoes before he wriggled back into the haphazard nest, yanking one end of the sheet to no avail.

“No smoking in bed,” she replied, petulantly, and then whipped around with a shocking amount of force– the same attack which had initially persuaded him to get the fuck out of bed. This time, however, he found himself dragged down and enveloped in the sheet, in a chaotic mess of fabric and limbs.

“Why am I still high?” he demanded, but his irritation dissolved as V draped herself over him, tucking him in close against her.

“Is cause and effect too difficult for you?" Her laugh was cut off with a sound of disgust. "Jesus, keep your feet off of me.”

“Fuck.” He followed his instincts, burrowing his face into her neck. She smelled like sex and bourbon and V. “I wanted nicotine.”

“Go back to bed," she said, indulgently. And for just a moment, in that tenuous space between altered conscious and unconscious, with her weighing him down, he almost thought he was back in her head. But he wasn't. He wasn't. "Who died and made you king?" Her sigh turned into a loud yawn. "No arguing in bed either. Go to sleep, shithead."

He laughed, eyelids so heavy he couldn't keep them open anymore. "And if I die before I wake, I pray to Alt my soul to take."

V made a low noise and kissed the top of his head. "Amen."
