I spent some wonderful time in Malaysia in the 20 years before the beginning of the present century. It was easy to envy those who lived in a country prosperous enough that few were in dire poverty, and the approach to living was a relaxed one. Sadly oil wealth, industrialization and religion have greatly altered that once semi-idyllic life style.
