what's eddy's relationship with thatcher??? :]

it's....complicated.

when they first meet, thatcher doesn't really like him. eddy comes across as being rude, selfish and snarky, and thatcher finds him annoying. of course, when thatcher and pembroke befriend each other, eddy gets jealous, trying to weasel his way into their relationship as to not feel left out.

pembroke can tell eddy doesn't like thatcher and questions him about it when they're alone. eddy avoids the interrogation for a while before giving in and telling pembroke what's really going on. pembroke tells eddy to give thatcher a chance, so he begrudgingly tries.

thatcher is willing to be on good terms with eddy, which makes the whole process a lot easier. eddy finds that thatcher is actually sort of funny and interesting, and they start hanging out more when pembroke isn't around, although they will both still tell you that they're not friends. but they are friends, obviously, so nobody believes them.

and then pembroke dies. eddy is completely inconsolable, and the only person who was almost as close to pembroke as eddy is thatcher. thatcher tries to talk eddy out of his grief, but he quickly finds that it is the wrong way of doing things, and instead he lets eddy lean on his shoulder as much as he wants. eddy, who without pembroke feels completely alone, is extremely grateful to thatcher for being there for him when he thought nobody would.

aside from that, eddy is kind of crazy and thatcher is easily horrified so they make for a great duo. they love to argue about nothing and have so many inside jokes that they've practically forgotten all of their meanings but they're still funny anyway. deep down they definitely love each other, but they would never ever admit that to the general public.
