Well... she was a little bit lost. Taken on a trip to one of the busier sections in Tokyo, she’d wandered away when her parents had started arguing in the middle of the sidewalk. Even at eight years old, Chiaki knew enough to be embarrassed for them, and so she simply walked away. Of course she didn’t think ahead at all, and soon she got distracted by a shiny new game store that boasted its grand opening.

She’d maybe be a bit more concerned if she realized how dangerous it was to be on her own in such a place, but she willfully ignored that fact and entered the building as the doors slid open to welcome her. There was a Mario Kart game on display. The girl’s eyes lit up, and she rushed over to play it. Soon she became engrossed, coming in first place almost every single time... until a man rudely told her that her turn was over and she needed to get lost.

She stared at him, uncomprehending. He turned his nose up at her. “Creepy kid,” he muttered.

Without thinking Chiaki put her thumb in her mouth and wandered off again. She nibbled at her thumbnail as she walked, too distracted by the display cases to watch where she was going.
