A Gucci Centenary 

So you’re in business for , oh let’s just say 100 years . How do you celebrate? 

I’m listening

Well if you’re an internationally known Maison (oops house for all of you unfamiliar with international fashion jargon) and you’ve also been deep in the thick of a global pandemic, you celebrate in the most obnoxious and celebratory way....you announce you’re only showing twice a year, throw a party with a hip hop and rock Gucci influenced soundtrack (each song had the word Gucci in it- think Lil Pump’s Gucci Gang) produce a film but make it fashion. 

Gucci creative director/designer Alessandro Michele left absolutely nothing back in this celebration that he’s dubbed “Gucci Aria”. Aria in Italian means Air and Michele in fact breathed a bit of fresh air into the line. Now please understand that Michele’s tenure as head of the fashion house has been a breath of fresh air in itself as he introduced the house and fans to a more maximalist view of the brand. Leaning on founder Guccio Gucci’s days as a porter at the fame Savoy Hotel in London, the equestrian history of the brand, it’s infamous Tom Ford era and a surprise “collaboration” with Balenciaga’s creative director Demna  Gvasalia, this latest collection is a mash up of the best parts of the past and a nod to the importance of collaboration in a unique way. Although Michele and Gvasalia assure fans of both brands that this is not in fact a collaboration but a celebration of another brand. (Michele “borrowed” a few of Balenciaga’s patterns and thus the Gucciaga or Balencuui designs came to life) Gucci Aria has shown us a glimpse of the phrase “ life is indeed Gucci”.
