Hi! Art question! You use acrylic paint, right? Do you switch up the brushes between colours? Do you use multiple colours on one brush without cleaning it in between? I really admire how you have transitions/contrasts between your colours, but I don’t understand painting at all, haha :D

I do! I usually use one or two brushes, and just wipe them on cloth between colors. If there’s a liiiittle residual from the previous color, I find that it can help a bit with blending. If I want a cleaner contrast, I just rinse it in water and dab it dry before picking up the next color.

No but for more context because I actually think it’s hilarious:

In this class, the teacher posted a writing prompt to the online portal every week.

The very first question of the semester was “What is your current knowledge of turfgrass/Current opinions of turfgrass/etc” that kind of vibe.

And I wrote something that can basically be summed up as “I think lawns are bullshit wastes of water and space and should be converted to food gardens” and I guess he respected I had the guts to shout that into the open that he gave me extra credit.

BUT FAST FORWARD

The very LAST prompt of the semester was “Research a First in Turfgrass History.” As in, research the world’s first lawnmower, or research the world’s first sprinkler system, that shit. 

AND FOR SOME BIZARRO REASON I was on a really huge bocce ball obsession at the time. Which is a lawn bowling game, for those who don’t know. So I was like. Boy I really hope bocce ball is the “first lawn game” because I really want an excuse just to ramble about bocce ball for school credit.

So while trying to google to find a definite answer that would tell me what the “first lawn game” was, I learned the following: lawn bowling is the entire fucking reason we have home lawns in the first place. I shit you not. Basically, it used to be played at parks and then it became a mark of wealth and status if you could be like “Behold, I have a lawn at my house, so I can host parties to play lawn bowling at my actual house!!!” and that’s part of why nice lawns were associated with the upper class.

So I wrote this essay about the history of lawn bowling, and then my conclusion was like “Lawn bowling is the reason we have lawns at home. It’s so that people can play bocce ball at their house. But do you ever see anyone play bocce ball at home anymore?? No. How many people even know what it is these days?? It’s not exactly a popular sport. Therefore home lawns are bullshit wastes of water and space and should be converted to food gardens.”

And he gave me extra credit again.

oh gosh, i dont listen to a lot of lgb musicians, honestly! ive heard some hayley kiyoko songs, but she isn’t my favorite. i like frankie cosmos, but im not 100% sure if she’s lgb? so, yeah, sorry this answer was a bit of a mess. if you have any suggestions for lgbt artists, feel free to send them to me!

Bones would like to remind you of taking your medication today, if you have some prescribed. He knows it can be hard to remember or just really annoying, but he thinks it’s important. He wishes for you to be as well as possible, and taking your meds can help with that. If you think they don’t help properly, you can try talking to your doctor about it, they may be able to do something about that. If you struggle with timing, maybe set a reminder in your phone? okay!! I’ll explain the premises that way if I decide to write them i won’t spoil them

(b>First story: (currently untitled bc im dumb)This is the real crime one. A team of new York detectives is assembled, all out some of the most talented young minds in the country. Among them is 20 year old Dahlia Rose. One day, a new person arrives on the team: 22 year old Heather Wood. She’s a little mysterious, a little serious, but extremely kind and insanely smart. Dahlia and Heather immediately become great friends, earning a nickname from their superior “Rosewood”. Dahlia has a boyfriend. She never talks about him except that “he’s sweet when you really get to know him”. Sometimes Dahlia come into work with bruises. She never says anything but Heather knows. The team takes Dahlia out for her 21st birthday, Heather drives her home. But she stays outside in the car because something doesn’t feel right, and she sees Dahlia’s boyfriend hitting her. Heather barges in and hits him over the head before he gets the chance to hurt Dahl. Okay so i’ll stop right there to avoid spoilers but just know that Heather has a dark backstory and this story does not end how you think it does. I explained it all to @eatacactusass a long time ago lol.

Second story: KingThis one i’ve been obsessed with lately (it’s the medieval fantasy one) In this kingdom, there lived a royal family- the Eutheara family. The king, the queen, and twin prince and princess. When the children were only ten, they were traveling by carriage through the mountains. A boulder struck the carriage, crushing the family and knocking over torches, setting it aflame. Only one survived: the young daughter, Esmya (ehz-mee-yuh). Tradition told that one eligible for the throne was the next male heir, yet neither the king nor the prince lived. Instead of giving the throne to the living brother of the king, a war-mongering man, the royal advisors made a decision. They told the kingdom that the prince, not the princess, had survived. They showed the last Euthaera to the kingdom not as Esmya, but as prince Alean, and trained her to live as a man and one day become king. Flash forward 12 years. No one knows of Esmya’s true identity except for a board of royal advisors and a single, loyal servant (Sindel) who found out on her own. However there’s an issue. By tradition, the king rules for 5 years before marrying a neighboring kingdom’s princess therefore continuing the bridge of peace throughout. The idea of Esmya being forced to reveal herself to someone is threatening to the board, but to keep face, Esmya must continue with the tradition. Luckily, she knows of someone. Her name is Myrine (mee-er-reen), and she is the daughter of a fellow king and the childhood friend of Esmya. She hasn’t seen Myrine since her family was killed, but marrying marrying a distant friend is better than marrying a stranger and risking her secret being exposed. When Myrine arrives in the kingdom, she is cold and distant to Esmya, whom she believes still to be Alean. Myrine reveals that Alean, the real Alean, was terrible to her in childhood, that he would pick fights and spit at her. But finding Esmya so calming and gentle, she realizes that she is not Alean. She agrees to marry her and keep her secret safe, all while falling in love with her. There’s more to it and this other character i think i’ll name Aeson or smth and he’s a transgender fantasy-equivalent to a witch but like, badass. Anyways i have this whole arc for it and i hope i get around to writing it.

Third story: (probably) The Legend of the TidesThis one is fantasy too, greek myth esqu not medieval. Princess of island (think like the island from mama mia lol) named Adamaris loves the stars and moon and shit. Is gonna be forced to marry when she comes of age so she cries and prays to the moon. Next day a strange woman appears by the name of Channary. She is beautiful and mysterious and okay she’s the fucking moon alright. I haven’t fleshed it out but in the end they run away stardust style and Channary turns back into the moon but Adamaris turns into the ocean and that’s why the moon controls the tides.

Hello! Have you listened to Hadestown? I just discovered it, and it's absolutely amazing!!! It's a retelling of the story of Orpheus and his wife (too scared to spell her name) but it's industrial and not typical musical style. Thought you might be interested? :D

I think those anons are just one person trying to upset you. They're all written in similar style, and use the same talking points. It must suck to get your inbox flooded with this negativity, but please remember that's not how people actually see you. You do deserve everything you got, your hard work should pay off. You're an amazing artist, and getting recognized/gaining popularity is part of that. No need to justify yourself. I'm sorry you have to deal with that stuff. &@anon: go suck an egg.
