okay okay what do we think about nat and or travis having long term vision loss or chronic headaches or other eye issues? it's lowkey a miracle that neither of them experienced snow blindness when out hunting in winter without eye protection. i feel like it'd add even more wrinkles to their dynamics with the others, especially gen, considering both have basically abandoned the hunter role entirely in s3 for various reasons and being unable to properly aim and hunt bc they can't see well would def add to that. also also the sheer angst factor of travis slowly losing the ability to really see javi's drawings in all their detail and nat's perception of reality deteriorating as hallucinations become more clear to her while reality becomes more blurry is just---RAHH. im rambling now but the thought has gripped me and will not release me from its jaws
All of this YES. I actually think that the reason so many characters wear eye black in the s3 hunt is because they learned from their mistakes in the first winter. Eye black helps reflect sunlight around the eyes, that’s why sports players wear it on fields. So I think Nat wearing the eye black, as well as for costuming purposes to make it harder to see who is who, also served a narrative purpose of making sure she had a sight advantage during the hunt as she escaped.
I think as well for the both of them, they would have SUCH increased temperature sensitivity to the point where Travis and Nat both get terrible mobility issues in the cold. Toes and fingers locking, knees and ankles sore.
The idea of Travis losing his sight fucking kills me. As his memory of his brothers face becomes foggier it becomes harder and harder for him to make out Javi’s face in pictures. All of this is so— I’m chewing on it. Gnawing on it. Internalizing it.
