Arthur Danto (1924–2013) was an American art historian, critic and thinker, author of many books on aesthetics, art, and philosophy. He was president of American Society for Aesthetics, vice president and president of the American Philosophical Association, editor of Journal of Philosophy and a regular contributor to Naked Punch Review and Artforum.

can someone explain Arthur Danto’s The Artworld to me?

the only thing i can understand is that he has two theories: Imitation Theory of Art (IT) which is based on traditional definition of art based on Socrates which says that art is only a reflection or imitation of what is real, and the “Reality Theory” (RT) which is post-impressionist and wherein the artist creates new real forms, not imitations of real ones.
