Do you have any films that would fit dark found family, like the message is that these people are awful but not to each other?
I do! I love this trope; I wish I saw more of it…
❥ Bonnie and Clyde (1967) is a biographical film about a couple who embark on a violent spree together. If you like this film/premise, it may also be worth considering Natural Born Killers (1994), a crime film also following a couple who go on a violent crime spree together.
❥ Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) is a crime film about a man who enlists his friends to help him pay off a debt by resorting to criminal acts. If you like this film/premise, it may also be worth considering Snatch (2000), a thematically-similar film by the same director.
❥ Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! (1965) is an exploitation film about a trio of three sadistic go-go dancers who embark on a violent kidnapping and murder spree in the California desert.
❥ Seven Psychopaths (2012) is a dark comedy film about a group of men who embark on a spiral of escalating violence.
❥ The Bad Batch (2016) is a dystopian film about a woman who is exiled to a desert populated by those who the US government deems unfit. US law does not apply in this area, and those who live there have formed their own community with this in mind.
❥ In Bruges (2008) is a dark comedy film about two hitmen who go in hiding together after a job goes wrong. Isolated from the outside world, the pair form a dysfunctional but sincere bond. While their actions are violent, they are shown to care deeply about one another.
❥ The Warriors (1979) is a crime film about a New York street gang forced to cross hostile territory after being wrongly accused of murder. As they fight for survival, the gang’s loyalty and cohesion are tested, highlighting their solidarity in the face of constant external threats.
❥ The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) is a biographical crime film following a group of stockbrokers who build an insular culture of excess, fraud, and mutual reinforcement while operating beyond moral or legal restraint.
❥ The “Firefly” horror film series, consisting of The House of 1000 Corpses (2003), The Devil’s Rejects (2005), and 3 from Hell (2019), follows a sadistic family of killers that is, in part, biologically related, although their cohesion is ultimately defined more by shared violence and loyalty than by blood.
