AND THEY BOTH KNOW IT LIKE OBVIOUSLY THEY LOVED EACH OTHER BEFORE BUT FOR THAT HUG THEY BOTH KNOW IT AND. I. JUST.

mitch’s changed hélo’s drugs for a while now, so he already has seen her in that state and he’s going to take care of her. he’s going to do that because he loves her. maybe he doesn’t love her like he loves tom, maybe her father is not happy but he’ll marry her because. he loves her. maybe not like a husband should but he’ll vow to take care of her. he loves her, so much. so fucking much. and. anyway. even if he’s in love with tom, nothing will ever happen, it’s better not to think more about it. he can live a life with hélo. and stay friends with tom. but. he hugs him kinda like a goodbye to what could have been, and will never be.

and tom’s a tiny bit surprised by the hug. not that it’s unusual but. he loves mitch and being physically that close to him probably hurts a ton. and it’s like a goodbye to him too. his dreams of being with him, or saying something, of being with him will be dead and buried for ever by the morning. one last time. then he’ll bury it all so deep, oh so deep. if there was a tiny glimmer of hope before, there won’t ever be one after the wedding happens. one last time, hold him like maybe it’ll happen someday. maybe one day he’ll grow the “balls” to tell him. then let him go, let him go take care of his soon to be wife. he can’t rob hélo of her happiness anyway. 

that wink. is like. it’s gonna be okay. friend. you’re just a friend. i’m just your friend. nothing more. will never be more. you’ll never want more. so we’re friends. friend. reassurance that he can still act like the friends they’ve always been.
