OMG, we are actually almost done.  14 chapters out of 15 for a story that was supposed to be a loosely connected series of kink ficlets.  And then it grew legs, and feelings, and a plot, and ALL OF THE WORDS.  And really? Stayed more or less canon compliant up until Thor: Ragnorak.

Okay, so we didn't finish The Box Set before IW, which was our self imposed deadline. Which is kind of disappointing but not really. It's always reassuring to put a big story to bed before another chunk of canon drops, but @thassalia and I already juggle multiple versions of these characters in our work, so IW isn't a derailment so much as a distraction. A tasty cliffhanger of a distraction, with a bunch of gods and machines and macguffins in play. But fuck it, it's not like we don't already have a stable full of wips both solo and together. Thing is, last week I said we were going to wrap The Box Set up in a couple chapters, we had 4k (almost one chapter worth) and some notes. Now we're at 21k (more like three chapters), and we're in the home stretch where themes keep popping up and smacking us in the face (also, cross country scavenger hunt logistics). But I feel confident, barring utter disaster, this week the last three chapters will drop.

I’ve talked about the weight that a playlist has for me when writing, they’re a way for me to access the dreaming subconscious and the emotional parts of my brain, and I’ll listen and compile obsessively as I write. Nearly everything I write of any length has a playlist.

This one is so 80′s/90′s, I can’t defend or even explain it.  I didn’t even listen to these bands then, it was before music piracy and I was working poor, so if it wasn’t on the radio I didn’t hear it. I’m usually not one for nostalgia or love songs in general, but there was something about pop crooning that sounded right.

So here it is, two hours of complicated libido (in the sense of both lust and lust for life). Sentience and relationships would be so much easier if humans weren’t so easily derailed by all the primal F’s: fighting fleeing, feeding, and fucking.

Hi! I just read Heat Beneath the Winter, and I had to write to you to tell you how wonderful I thought it was. At its best there's this deep intimacy and intensely visceral dynamic/feeling when it comes to Natasha and Bruce. They're two people who's emotions run beneath the surface and they're both too smart for their own good and yet, you know? I love what you envoked here. I'm also reading The Box Set and I wait with bated breath to read its end. Thank you (and Thessalian) for writing/sharing

Hola Nonny! I’m sorry to be replying to this after eons--this has felt like a dessert I needed to earn, so instead I’ve been chugging away on the last few chapters of Box Set and telling myself I could indulge later. And then feeling guilty that I haven’t replied yet. Yay, doom spiral!

Thank you for this lovely note, it’s cheered me up and cheered me on.

Heat is a story I wrote to prove to myself I could still finish something short, and also work through exactly that idea of visceral emotional feeling between these two characters. I had this image of dirty bathroom sex on the cusp of annihilation, and the more I turned it around in my head, the more it became about a moment shared, sacred like a consummation, a piece of space and time carved out for longing and honesty and physical intimacy.

A lick and a promise : )

I feel like both of them view their own bodies very practically, but each harbors a reverence for the other’s body and what it can do.
