The Conversion

about: two characters get trapped in a strange house of some sort--they’re not sure what it is, or what’s wrong with it, but there’s something Wrong. 

to top it all off, the narrator’s companion... well, every night, there’s something different. they’re changing, somehow. and the narrator watches as everything seems to crumble down around them, until managing to talk with their companion, and they both discover that they’ve both noticed something wrong, and that they need to get out immediately. but that’s much easier said than done.

genre: mostly horror-ish

We’re down to What’s New Pussycat, Country Roads, and Hotel California. 

Jem has proven to be an interesting and worthwhile companion, actually. Since… that day, we’ve grown quite a bit closer. Jem’s… Jem is trying to figure something out. It’s almost like we’re not quite us, when we try to keep the tallies. 

We’re both pretty sure it’s the house. We just… don’t know how to beat it. 

How does one even beat an enemy that seems to be so encompassing?

The catch: I don’t think we can. There’s… I don’t even know where to begin. 

Jem and I have taken to writing things down to communicate, in the hopes that we can give the house less to play off of. Surprisingly, it… seems to be working, a little. 

Sure, we still have vocal conversations, but it seems as though anything we say can and will be used against us. So we don’t say anything that could be compromising. It’s… it works, as well as it can, I think. It’s imperfect but it’s enough. We’ve been trying to see what we can figure out, but. 

It’s difficult. But we make do.
