To the Brave & Courageous
Today I had a family-gathering-thingy. And a conversion about clubs turned towards a specific one that had been converted to a LGBT club, then one cousin (at least I think he is a cousin) started spewing homophobic hatred about locking them up in the premises and burning it down; “send the sinners to hell as should be”.
God help me, I almost attacked him over the salad bowl. But I didn't, because my mom rarely sees her family, who are very religious and loving (mostly). It killed me that I did not have the courage to stand up for them, for myself, and merely just give little shake of my head in reply.
So to my fellow humans, whom are viewed as ‘not normal’, as ‘deviants’, as ‘sinners’, and called the rest of the derogatory terms, this is for you.
To those who have stood up and let yourself be heard, against all adversity and fear-tainted hatred, worn the burden of maybe not being accepted; you are the brave, the courageous. Thank you
To those, like me, who still hide the real us, because the possibility of losing the people you love or being shunned, but still survive and keep your chin up; you are the brave, the courageous. Thank you
To those who have left us because the light of hope had disappeared, just for not allowing themselves to be changed and staying true to yourself; you are the brave, the courageous. Thank you
I hope we, the brave, the courageous, can one day stand shoulder to shoulder, lending each other strength, and show the world that we belong, that we are humans capable of love and greatness. I am who I am, and no one else.
