❝ since you left, i have no one to talk to. ❞

❝ I APOLOGIZE, SWEET ONE. ❞ Genuine sorrow and grief touched his voice as he came quietly into their home. Reid Mansion, as it had been, was near empty and silent constantly. His mother passed, Avery kept to himself, Rey was now left alone for periods at a time now since he deemed it far too dangerous for her to go anywhere once the sun had set. Chilled palms touch lightly to her face, thumbs brushing stray hairs from the apples of her cheeks. ❝ I would come back more often if I were not... Endangering you. ❞ A weak argument for his absences. His eyes were not bloodshot, but he had been gone feeding. He loathed to do it, especially when it took time away from her.
❝ I would give the world to be able to spend my days with you. I'm afraid it is simply not meant to be right now. ❞ Every word only made it worse. His heart ached to see her smile, just as much as it ached for his own happiness to return. This cruel and cold world was not kind to either of them or their circumstances. To find peace in small moments was more like a miracle, or a gift. ❝ I have asked the dear Lady to come check on you when she can, but I fear her obligations are as dire as mine, if not moreso. ❞ (I pray for her safety as much as yours in these dark times.) He stops trying to feed her excuses and words, and instead watches her. He feels her heart thud in her chest against her ribs, a strong and fine rhythm to be had by a spitfire girl like herself. He watches her expression change, over and over, going through the motions of somber disappointment to an overwhelmed loneliness. Darkened hazel eyes hold even darker circles under them, fits of terrorized sleep plaguing her worse than illness. Tilting her head down slightly, Reid pressed his lips against her forehead.
❝ I will be here in the morning for you. Go sleep, sweet one. ❞
