And I my Robert Frost
And we note our place with bookmarkers
That measure what we’ve lost.”

Joan Baez covering Paul Simon’s, “The Dangling Conversation,” Joan, August 1967.
Sincere thanks to my dear musical and poetry friend at @andothersongs and also @linesfromaroom for introducing me to this beautiful Simon and Garfunkel song 'The Dangling Conversation'.
I've been obsessed with the song for some time... so what better than to create a poem from a song that even with just the words is so clearly poetry!
If you are as obsessed with the song as I am, you may find this You Tube video of great interest... a teacher from the 1960s using Simon and Garfunkel's music and lyrics to teach her students poetry... how cool is that! www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaYul6-dlSI
It's a still life watercolor Of a now-late afternoon As the sun shines through the curtained lace And shadows wash the room
And we sit and drink our coffee Couched in our indifference, like shells upon the shore You can hear the ocean roar
In the dangling conversation And the superficial sighs The borders of our lives
And you read your Emily Dickinson And I my Robert Frost And we note our place with book markers That measure what we've lost
Like a poem poorly written We are verses out of rhythm Couplets out of rhyme In syncopated time
And the dangling conversation And the superficial sighs Are the borders of our lives
Yes, we speak of things that matter With words that must be said "Can analysis be worthwhile?" "Is the theater really dead?"
And how the room is softly faded And I only kiss your shadow, I cannot feel your hand You're a stranger now unto me
Lost in the dangling conversation And the superficial sighs In the borders of our lives Simon & Garfunkel
Like a poem poorly written, We are verses out of rhythm, Couplets out of rhyme In syncopated time. And the dangling conversation And the superficial sigh Are the borders of our lives.
Simon and Garfunkel - The Dangling Conversation
How cool to have a teacher in the 60s who saw lyrics as poetry!!
If you hear cars passing by at the start of the music... yep... too many damn cars on a Sunday afternoon! 😔
